FSBK - GMT94 takes the lead of the French Superbike Championship -

After setting the fastest time in qualifying and then pole in the superpole, Sebastien Gimbert won the first round and finished second in the second. In Supersport, Olivier Four comes back to 19 points behind leader Matthieu Ginès…

The Yamaha France GMT 94 Ipone team therefore leaves Magny-Cours with 17 points ahead of Vincent Philippe.

However, it was a hard blow for Guillaume Dietrich, double winner at Ledenon (read), who fell with his qualifying tire at the end of the last session. "A very big fall that I have no memory of", explains the Suzuki rider of Team LMS:"I was unconscious for a few minutes and was taken to hospital for tests which revealed a fractured scapula and right shoulder. I was able to go home the evening before leaving for Paris this Sunday to take additional exams with the professor who has already operated on my shoulder. We will then decide on a possible operation. Thank you to all the people who support me and count on me to come back even stronger !"

In the first Superbike round, the GMT rider, who got off to a great start ahead of Sylvain Barrier and Gwen Giabbani, widened a 5-second lead from the middle of the race which he then "only" had to manage. But Freddy Foray does not give up and maintains his rhythm to gradually come back to Gimbert !

Well paneled, the GMT driver stabilized the gap to more than a second and clinched a precious victory while Foray let go of his pursuers to cross the finish line alone in second position. Follow Cedric Tangre, Vincent Philippe who limits the damage with a fourth place despite his injury, Loris Baz and Sylvain Barrier.

The second Superbike round sees young Loris Baz (Yamaha) win ahead of Sebastien Gimbert, Sylvain Barrier, Gwen Giabbani and Freddy Foray. It is Barrier who takes the best start, followed like his shadow by the GMT rider: the two Yamaha riders, who do not give each other any gifts while remaining fair play, exchange the lead of the race. Behind, the charge is led by Loris Baz then by Gwen Giabbani, before Baz takes up 3rd place to gradually pick up the two leaders while Vincent Philippe gives up due to a mechanical problem.

Baz glued together at halfway and even passed Barrier to grab second place on lap 10: in a pocket handkerchief, the three Yamaha riders increased their attacks and with three laps from the finish, Baz got the better of Gimbert.

Classification of the French Superbike championship after five events

  1. Sebastien Gimbert (153 points)

  2. Vincent Philippe (136)

  3. Guillaume Dietrich (113)

In Supersport, Gregory Leblanc won the first round ahead of Matthieu Ginès, David Nivière, Olivier Four and Frederic Moreira, who had started on pole but was immediately passed by Kevin Denis. A few turns later, Leblanc (Yamaha Duterne Racing) takes control and escapes with Ginès (Honda Tecmas).

Victim of a heavy fall from the second round of the second round, Matthieu Ginès, fortunately unscathed, will not be able to come and compete for victory with Olivier Four who wins ahead of Leblanc, Moreira, Denis and Guarnoni. Four is therefore 19 points behind Matthieu at the head of the championship while Leblanc takes 3rd place at 46 points … But there are still four rounds of 25 points, so everything remains possible for the title for these three men. !

The next event will take place on the Le Mans circuit on September 6 … Stay tuned !
