It is time to go back to school for the 125 cc and larger motorcycle and scooter market, but the first report is rather disappointing with 16,329 motorcycles registered in September 2010, that is 1342 less than last year. Can do better, that’s for sure.

Back to school difficult for the market…

The month of September 2009 (read) was not already famous with a downward trend in the motorcycle market (-15.2%), and September 2010 is to match with a drop of -7, 6%.

Sales of motorcycles and scooters of "125 cc and more" are at half mast and it is useless to look for explanations on the side of working days or "dealership opening" days: 22 in both cases.

The drop is however slightly more accentuated in the 125s than in the large engines with respectively -9.7% and -5.2%. Little by little, the manna of "scootomobilists" is reduced: passed one by one through the concession box, the "X-maxiens" take advantage of their still beautiful scooters and will not buy new vehicles right away….

Some brands are nevertheless managing to seduce this clientele with new products: Honda and Peugeot made some pretty good moves in September with their respective PCX and Tweet, while Yamaha and Piaggio hold their own and outsiders clench their teeth….

Among the big cubes (more than 125), two manufacturers stand out: Harley-Davidson thanks to its 2011 novelties already in dealerships (read our and) and KTM above all because of a missed September 2009 (read our and ).

Alone at the head of sales, Yamaha leaves his three compatriots to bicker – and tumble – for the other two steps of the podium while the European manufacturers are not doing so badly after all. But silence in the ranks: here are the complete reports for the month of September…
