Market reports - First half of 2015: BMW's market report - Pre-owned BMW

BMW has just completed the first half of 2015 with an increase of + 10.8% and has a total of 7,482 registrations. The Managing Director of the German brand in France, Frederic Stik, delivers his impressions to Site readers. First assessment…

Site: After six years of constant decline, the French motorcycle market returned to growth in 2014 with + 2.5% (read our). In the first half of 2015, the increase was limited to + 0.8% (read our). Should we be worried ?
Frederic Stik, Director of BMW Motorrad France:
In 2014, the motorcycle market as a whole grew by almost + 3%. To date in 2015, the market for over 500 cc, which interests us more particularly at BMW Motorrad, stands at -1.8%. This market situation is not encouraging but it corresponds to our forecasts and we therefore anticipated the situation.

MNC: Regarding BMW, what is your assessment of your first six months of 2015? ?
F. S .:
BMW Motorrad grew by + 5.8% on this same market of more than 500, or 15% of market share and nearly 7,000 registrations. The deployment of our used vehicle program (used vehicles, Editor’s note) BMW Motorrad Premium Selection as well as the positioning of BMW Motorrad on sales to companies, with in particular the launch of the LLD Alphabet solution, are also undeniable assets for commercial progress..

MNC: For you, what is the highlight of this first half of the year? ?
F. S .:
For us, it is very clearly the success of the launch of our five new products for 2015 on different segments: new S 1000 RR and R 1200 RS for the sport and sport GT segments, new F 800 R and R 1200 R for roadsters, finally the S 1000 XR in the trail segment. Our flagship models also perform well, allowing us to consolidate our position in the market. The success of these new models was also supported by the significant investments made by our dealers..

MNC: How is your second semester going? ?
F. S .:
We will continue our efforts to maintain our momentum of success with the acceleration of deliveries of S 1000 XR and R 1200 RS, as well as an important marketing and sales mechanism..

MNC: Finally, the government has still not settled the question of the "retrofit" (read). How much does this lack of response impact your business ?
F. S .:
For us, what is important is to be able, from January 1, 2016, to offer our motorcycles with the same specificities that our customers already know in the rest of Europe, and to allow French customers to benefit from the full qualities of our machines. Regarding the retrofit, our reading of the European regulation which will apply from January 1, 2016 suggests that the vehicles in our range which are Euro 3 or Euro 4 could be re-registered according to these new provisions..
