For the fifth edition of the Dourdou Rally, the Moto Club de Villecomtal had concocted an extraordinarily successful race! With a little less scorching weather than in 2005 (read), but very trying all the same ….
Third round of the championship and third different winner: Emmanuel Siaux proved what he was capable of, winning all the day specials and even achieving, with his Yamaha 450 WRF, an extraordinary time in the Villecomtal special.
Relentless Siaux !
Passing under the 2-minute mark (1’59.88), he will atomize Manoel Delaval, the 2003 French scratch champion, a rider also out of the ordinary who only competed in the Moto Tour since 2003 but came as a visitor to test the 1000 CBR that he will ride at the next Dark Dog Moto Tour. According to some rumors, one of the specials of this edition of Dourdou would indeed be on the program of DDT 2006…
"There at least there is a basis with the time that I realized", explains Emmanuel Siaux:"we will see if this is confirmed during the Dark Dog Tour"…
A rally upside down…
This Dourdou was not a rally like the others: the organizers had decided to reverse the course by starting with the night event on Friday evening! The day Saturday was even more trying after a short night between the two stages, but the formula nevertheless pleased a large number of competitors..
Two different loops between day and night with two specials: Villecomtal and Golhinac. An 85 km tour to be done twice at night and three times during the day. Over a course of 123 km, both tracks were very technical on narrow and gravel roads (including a portion of dirt road!). Real rally !
22 hours: action !
From the first special, Thomas Laroche announces the color on his Yamaha 450 WRF by setting the best time in front of the scarecrow Delaval! The Villecomtal special was canceled on the second lap, however, due to the delay accumulated after a competitor left the road. But as Thomas goes to win the night stage, a few tenths ahead of Manoel, he will be awarded a one-second penalty, "invented for the occasion"according to some observers, because of a departure from Golhinac which he will take slightly…
Following starting difficulties, he had indeed moved away from the starting area to start with the stroller, and following the signs of the starting marshal who invited him not to stop, he had set off confident for this special … Too bad, because the race management did not see it the same way and Thomas will finish second, 8 tenths behind Delaval.
Hard day…
It is after a short night (due to the late arrival at night despite the amputation of the last special) that the first competitors leave the motorcycles from the parc ferme for the hour and a half of assistance before the start of day scheduled at 10:00 am. The impeccable organization of the rally was more or less fulfilling its commitments and it was around 10:20 am that Greg Debize, number 4, set off for the 123 km loop..
Just as technical and trying as at night, the course is difficult … The superb layout particularly highlights all the assets of the Aveyron landscapes, with small roads in the undergrowth that make you want to stop for a nap than to drip sweat in his leather…
The first special (Golhinac) is quite far away, which allows you to get into the rhythm before you gas up! Golhinac is a very "mono" special: mostly in the undergrowth, its perfectly eye-catching coating makes it a model for specials! Emmanuel Siaux started his scratch festival there by "slamming" it in 2’19 ahead of Manoel Delaval (2’21.4).
Laroche calmed things down and achieved a third fastest time of the day, ensuring the benefit of his shortened lead from the night for the final podium.
Hats off to Thierry Lozano (Firmin for those in the know) who places his Aprilia RSV 1000 in the second scratch time, once at each special !
Prize giving at midnight
A few hours of rest after the arrival at the end of the afternoon and a fireworks display later, we are all set for a well-deserved awards ceremony !
Emmanuel Siaux wins hands down this 5th Rallye du Dourdou ahead of Manoel Delaval and Thomas Laroche.
In the categories we find Siaux the winner in Mono ahead of Laroche and Philippe Fedière in a 600 Honda XL from a long time ago! Delaval won the Top Sport category ahead of Greg Debize (750 Suz GSXR, 4th scratch) who pocketed enough points to claim the 2006 Top Sport title now! Thierry Lozano, third, completes the podium.
In the Sport category, Thierry Canazzi on 400 KTM takes first place ahead of Michael Pefaure (Yamaha 400 WR) and Daniel Dunaud (KTM 400 EXC).
On the side-car side, we find Bruno Marlin and Marylin Hudon on their Choda Kawasaki team, followed by Herve Laur and Marie Laure Ferrieu on Choda Suzuki) and Lebert / Camus in Yamaha 1100. Finally in Classics we find Gerard Rolland – Gege ! – in first place ahead of Jean Gautreau, both on 350 Yamaha RDLCs, while Pierre Godart finished third on his Yamaha 650 XJ.
In the provisional classification of the championship, Greg remains largely in the lead of the scratch ahead of Amblard and Laroche. Ditto in Top Sport, where there is a big fight for second and third places! Everything is still possible between Florent Parret, Yves Constantin and Marc Troussard, the Site pilot…
In Mono, Laroche is ahead of Amblard and in Sport, Thierry Canazzi has a good lead over Michael Pefaure, also well ahead of Daniel Dunaud followed by Didier Chambost, one point behind him…
In Side, Laurent Guillet’s team is still in the lead, followed by Laur / Ferrieu and Marlin / Hudon. Finally in Classics, Gerard Rolland sees a forthcoming title dawning ahead of Godard and Langelotti … Business to follow during the Baous rally, in the hinterland of Nice, on September 9 … which should finally take place. !
