WSBK 2017: MV Agusta with Camier … and a French driver ?
MV Agusta has just announced that his contract with Leon Camier has been renewed for the 2017 season. The English n ° 2 will play his third season riding the F4 RC and could be joined by another driver… French, why not ?!
Winner of the British Supersport in 2005 (aged 19) and titled in the Superbike category after an unforgettable season (19 wins in 26 races!), Leon Camier logically rode in, directly within the official Aprilia team.
It is therefore in the shadow of the future world champion Max Biaggi that the young, tall and handsome English driver was able to cut his teeth … Twelfth of the, Leon was and won an encouraging seventh place in the championship. He nevertheless had to give up the handlebars of his RSV4 to an even more promising Briton: Eugene Laverty, fourth in his first season on Yamaha. !
Transferred to Suzuki Crescent in, Camier spent two arduous seasons on a GSX-R1000, the weight of which was already beginning to be felt. Despite his efforts and those of his team, rewarded with only two podiums, the native of Ashford (England) found himself without handlebars for .
Called to the rescue by BMW for the first half of the season (!), Camier’s name has not, however, been forgotten. Applied and reliable, he also won over MV Agusta…
The small manufacturer from Varese has indeed tested and approved it, in, during the American test of. From there, Leon Camier became their one and only representative of the brand in the Superbike category. !
Thirteenth at the end of his first full year at the helm of the F4 RC (for "Reparo Corse", or racing department) with an accumulation of 89 points, "Lionne" is currently in eighth place in the 2016 provisional ranking with a total by 156 points…
Podium goal, victory and more if affinities !
Looking through the results of the English driver race by race, the improvement in his performance is even more striking: while he was struggling last year to climb beyond 10th place, he now manages to do so without too many problems. The n ° 2 even won three fifth places and four fourth in … And he intends to do even better !
"I am very happy to sign for 2017", rejoices the one who celebrated this summer his 30 years on the planet and his 150 World Superbike starts (156 to date, nine podiums but still no victory). "I believe 100% in this project and I sincerely feel that the bike has even greater potential, which is an important point for me".
Damaged last year by the abortive collaboration with the Forward Racing team, the preparation during the offseason promises to be studious: "we will have to work hard this winter but I have a very good feeling with the machine and I’m sure. that we will obtain very positive results for MV Agusta next year ", warns Mister" Kamir ".
"We are delighted to have reached an agreement with Leon to continue our collaboration," said MV Agusta team boss Andrea Quadranti. "We are truly delighted to have him in the MV Agusta Reparto Corse squad for next season, given the excellent results achieved together and the great professionalism Leon has shown this season".
At the end of July, the same team manager had already expressed his desire to keep Camier in his workforce. The workforce that he also intended to change: "I am analyzing the situation for next season and I am starting to think of having two pilots" in Superbike, and only one in Supersport (which would therefore amount to reversing the current situation).
"It makes more sense now that we are more competitive", remarked the boss transalpine. “It would allow having someone else to share information with during testing. We would also have the chance to score more points. That would be the idea: to have two bikes in WorldSBK and one in WorldSSP. will see … "
If the Marco Melandri option tested in private is definitively ruled out – the famous n ° 33 will be back in WSBK in -, other options are mentioned in the paddocks. The end of the season is near and the rumors continue to fly! Two caught the attention of Site…
The first concerns Sylvain Guintoli who is looking for a good handlebar for next year. , "Guinters" had clearly evoked the Aprilia track with which he had won his world title in 2014. But he did not deny himself any other opportunity. MV Agusta and his 37 world titles – a bit old, admittedly – is an interesting one !
The second rumor that circulated this weekend in Jerez and interests MNC readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more proud of their national drivers than the others -, that the current top driver of MV Agusta in Supersport , Jules Cluzel (who else?) Would spend next year at Yamaha…
Back this year in World Superbike with their recent R1, the Blues of Iwata would like to reinvest in the 600 cc category with their new R6! Besides our "Julo", Lucas Mahias would also be in pole position to drive one of the two official machines. MNC is investigating: stay connected !
