As of January 1, 2018, around 4.4 million motorcycles were registered in Germany. The plus over the previous year is 1.4 percent.

The number of motorcycles in Germany continues to grow. As can be seen from current figures from the Federal Motor Transport Authority, a total of 4,372,978 motorcycles were registered in Germany as of January 1, 2018 – 1.4 percent more than in 2017. Of the total number, almost 582,000 motorcycles (13.3%) are female owners, 2,058 are assigned to various authorities, aid organizations and public institutions.
The KBA puts the total number of registered vehicles in Germany at around 56.46 million vehicles, plus around 7.25 million trailers.
The Bavarians have the largest motorcycle fleet with 926,882 vehicles. North Rhine-Westphalia has 833,009 registered motorcycles and Baden-Wurttemberg has 675,708 registered motorcycles. All other federal states lag far behind (see table).

Honda dominates the stock

Honda has more bikes on the market than any other manufacturer.
The KBA will not deliver lower figures on the German motorcycle market as of January 1, 2018 until August. The figures as of January 1, 2017 are available. According to this, no manufacturer in Germany has more motorcycles with license plates than Honda. The Japanese are listed with an inventory of 691,296 motorcycles. Second place goes to Yamaha with 567,685 bikes under license plates. The third force in Germany is BMW: 538,029 BMW motorcycles had a license plate on the reporting date. Fourth place goes to Suzuki with 515,361 registered bikes. This is followed by Kawasaki (354,396), Piaggio (350,513), Harley-Davidson (209,611), KTM (117,714) and MZ (86,919). The top 10 are completed by Ducati, who with 79,794 bikes are still behind MZ.
