Now that the Brutale range begins in 675 and is confirmed in 800, the 1090 is asserting itself as the bull of the range. The goal: blood; the tool: the big 4 legs of 1078 cm3; the cavalry: 144 horses galloping unceremoniously. Here is a muscular traveling companion, sticking to the basques of the 1090 RR against a nice slew of euros less. Ouhla! What’s the catch!?! There’s no. But by looking closely and paying attention to the surname, we quickly see why the price becomes competitive against the competition. What does an R more or less mean in a 1090 Brutale? ?
To differentiate itself from the RR, we calm down on the layers of paint and varnish, the radial brake calipers are no longer one-piece, the discs and pistons are smaller, and the anti-dribble of the clutch disappears. The suspensions, on the other hand, have fewer adjustment possibilities. The engine claims 14 horsepower less but 1.2 mkg more.
On the other hand, his standard 1090 brother is tempting; why then crack 1000 euros more for this R? To obtain a more beautifully crafted metallic paint and not a matte one, indicators integrated into the mirrors, a red cylinder head cover and rear LED indicators.
The year 2013 brought a weight reduction of 1500 grams thanks to new rims, the adoption of LED daytime running lights arranged on either side of the dashboard, revised exhaust mufflers, a gray finish for the engine and a new front fender.
Less noble than the RR certainly, but the heart of the steak retains all its taste, especially since the sauce is still so spicy. The crimson engine cap is unequivocal: it’s the fire in there. 144 donkeys distributed MV style, it calms people and it tightens your spine. Just to not get lost in the scenery right away, the 1090 R retains 8-level traction control.
Apart from the suspension setting, the chassis remains identical to the RR, i.e. a trellis frame fixed to aluminum plates, a 50 mm Marzocchi inverted fork, a Sachs mono-shock, and the superb as well as the eternal single-sided swingarm.
ABS is now available as an option on the Brutale. But how do you get this kind of safeguard to be accepted by such a distinguished machine? By grafting him a Bosch 9MP. An anti-blocking device that is at the same time light, disconnectable and which knows how to be sporty. It’s up to you to measure its intervention: Normal for road use, Race for the circuit or muscular arsenal, or deactivated if you control your confidence.
