First round of new Honda 2010
Honda presents its first new products for 2010 with some evolutions and new colors: scooters SH125i and SH300i, 125 Varadero, custom Shadow Spirit 750 ABS, roadsters CB1000R and CBF600N and S and sports CBR600RR and 1000 Fireblade. Discovery.
Sporty: surprising graphics for the 2010 CBRs !
Despite repeated signs of caution (withdrawal from the Bol d’Or and most of the shows), Honda does not forget to present its new products for 2010: first discoveries, the 600 and 1000 CBR do not evolve or change little but address colors (d) amazing !
Lightweight, manoeuvrable and balanced, the Honda 600 and 1000 CBR have brilliantly animated the Supersport and Hypersport categories for many years. Unbeaten for seven years in the World Supersport (!), The CBR600RR is even the queen of the tracks around the world: since its last major overhaul in 2007, its featherweight (184 kg with full tank and 194 kg with C-ABS ) and its torquey engine (66 Nm in Full) are a sensation … for a 600, of course !
Also betting on the hunt for the gram and on the Total Control dear to the brand, the Honda CBR1000RR has a little more difficulty winning in WSBK. Ben Spies’ R1 and Noriyuki Haga’s 1198 did not make it easy for him despite a successful transfer in 2008 !
"Simply" equipped with the famous C-ABS in 2009 (read our), the two Honda siblings had only experienced few aesthetic and mechanical changes since their launch (read).
However, in perfect harmony with the pace of renewals and changes made to contemporary sports cars (changes every two years and a major overhaul every four years), the new Honda CBR 2010 will hardly be distinguished from the 2009 models: the 600 has only new colors to offer – pending its complete overhaul, logically planned for 2011 -, while the 1000 also tackles colors that are at least "punchy" and some aesthetic and mechanical details refined.
But let’s not sulk our pleasure, because – once is not customary! – Honda has shown visual audacity on its two sporting flagships: the "little one" stands out with a black and white model with daring graphics while the "big one" claims an unexpected mix of gray and orange to make people look pale. tuning enthusiasts !
CBR600RR: new colors … and that’s it !
In the absence of major changes made to its cycle part and its engine – the endless combination of power gain and weight loss that should dictate the development of the new model – the CBR600RR 2010 version simply sees its colors revisited.
Available from October 2009, it tries above all a special black and white edition where the face – a little suggestive – of a woman is artistically revealed on the sides of the fairings !
Although the level of requirement of the category accustoms each year to a riot of new small details "ki-va-bien", it is clear that the average Honda engine has already reached a level of homogeneity rarely reached and that ‘it is probably the most successful "road-track" alternative !
With its 599 cc in-line four-cylinder developing 120 hp at 13,500 rpm and 66 Nm of torque at 11,250 rpm (in full), the 600 CBR achieved the feat of being quickly usable on the track while retaining astonishing driving skills.
More comfortable than a Yamaha R6 or a Triumph 675 Daytona, the Honda shines with a super lively and reassuring front end and unison braking (dual 310 mm discs at the front clamped by four-piston radial calipers).
On the track, the most demanding will blame it for its lack of anti-dribbling and a little light original settings – in particular its slightly flat attitude – to take pole position every Sunday. For our part, only the really "cheap" dashboard and the jerks of injection during the go-around appear to us as the main faults, without forgetting the overweight due to the very efficient C-ABS which is however too much. sensitive on the front of the machine.
Available in black, black / red, tricolor version ("celebrating the sporting success of the 600 CBR", underlines Honda) and in the famous very original white and black livery, the CBR600RR does not know any price changes (11,990 € and 12,990 € with the C-ABS). It therefore remains among the most expensive sports cars on the market. with the Yamaha R6. Note that the version equipped with C-ABS will only be available in two versions: black and tricolor Victory.
CBR1000RR: refined … and colorful !
As for the Honda hypersportive, if the changes are more marked than on the younger one, they remain however minimal: extremely compact and homogeneous, the CBR1000RR has only undergone slight aesthetic alterations on its rear part..
Also available in October 2009, the CBR 1000 model 2010 mainly adopts new colors and sees some engine parts revisited..
The rear shell would be sharper and inaugurate a translucent lens light: two points unfortunately unverifiable on the first photos provided by the manufacturer! However, the rear fender appears shorter while the turn signal plate holder is more compact. Honda also specifies that this new support "can now be easily separated from the mudguard for track use". Convenient !
Already benefiting from an easily exploitable engine, the 1000 CBR 2010 sees its flywheel enlarged while the rigidity of the crankshaft is increased (+ 6.87% at the level of the inertia masses). Japanese engineers ensure that these modifications help fight against torque fluctuations and that this progress has been obtained without weight gain thanks to the use of lightweight components such as aluminum fixing screws at the cylinder head, gas tubes. thinner exhaust and more compact cooling fan motor.
In addition to the new graphics on the fairings, the sporty Honda also sees its redesigned exhaust outlet and its reworked casing: four notches appear on the lower part. Usually careful in the choice of its colors, Honda surprises this year by daring a very conspicuous metallic silver-orange version on the model without C-ABS !
The attractive tricolor HRC color is renewed without major modification (the red being more present, in particular on the front mudguard and the rear shell). A very sober black color as well as a black and white will also be offered. But only the tricolor or graphite black versions will be available on the model equipped with C-ABS.
Still claiming 178 hp at 12,000 rpm and 112 Nm of torque at 8,500 rpm (in full) for 199 kg all full (210 kg with C-ABS), the CBR1000RR 2010 also retains its price of 15,690 € ( 16690 with C-ABS).
