Horex, the German motorcycle brand recently resuscitated by Clemens Neese and Franck Fisher (read in particular), has just announced that the launch of the VR6 was again postponed for reasons of compliance with anti-pollution standards.

Initially announced for the end of 2011, then for the beginning of spring 2012 (read), the new roadster built in Augsburg (Germany) will finally enter production only at the end of the month..

Because to lower its emissions of pollutants, Horex must add an air injection system to the exhaust system of its 6-cylinder. Despite its catalytic converters, the VR6 engine would indeed have shown itself to be much too close to the maximum tolerated by the standards in force during the homologation tests..

The finalized version of the Horex VR6 roadster should therefore be fitted with a system called SAIS (Secondary Air Injection System), a technology which makes it possible to reduce the polluting emissions of a combustion engine by injecting fresh air into the air ducts. ‘exhausts.

Adopting this "technically sophisticated solution is costing us a little more time", admits Clemens Neese, admitting that changing his production plan was something "anything but simple".

The German leader assures however that this new delay will be the last and that the "first VR6 Roadsters will be manufactured at the end of May 2012".

As a reminder, the VR6 is a roadster with massive retro-inspired lines powered by a unique 1218 cc 6-cylinder V engine. Strongly inspired by Volkswagen V6s, this engine uses only one cylinder head thanks to its extremely narrow opening angle (15 °).

Originally intended to receive a compressor bringing its power to 200 hp, this very modern unit will eventually do without supercharging for economic reasons. Horex ensures that the "atmospheric" VR6 will however develop the trifle of 161 hp at 9000 rpm and 135 Nm of torque: more than enough to carry the 250 kg (approximately) announced on its technical sheet !
