The Taiwanese manufacturer Sym, mainly known in France for its scooters, is launching a small 250 cc motorcycle this year: the Wolf 250 SBi. Derived from the Wolf 125, it is aimed primarily at future A2 license holders. Presentation.

The general manager of Sym France informed us last week of the upcoming arrival in the markets of an unprecedented 250 cc motorcycle (read our): we now know a little more about this 2013 novelty "made in Taiwan"…

This is a 250 cc variation of the Wolf 125 introduced in France in October 2011. We therefore find – "and that’s good!", Claims the manufacturer – the contemporary look of the sister, who had ( photo-) shamelessly copied the lines of the Honda CB1000R…

The speedometer is the pride of the French importer, Disalco: "the digital instrument panel which revolves around a large needle tachometer reveals its information: speed, total trip, partial trip, gear indicator engaged, fuel gauge … "Only missing the average consumption !

"And to accentuate the character of the Wolf 250 SBi, the speedometer is fitted with a beautiful midnight blue backlight," added the importer. On the practical side, the manufacturer indicates that the retractable passenger part of the saddle gives quick access to the battery … but not to a storage space.

Straight position but "firm front suspension", saddle with foam "soft without being too flexible not to denote the sporting character of the bike": we read between the lines that comfort will probably not be the strong point of this bike intended above all, it is true, for simple urban journeys.

Question part cycle, Sym is in the classic but still grants a little originality by providing its front disc with a radial caliper. It will take that to attack the designated rivals: Suzuki Inazuma 250 aka "Mini B-King" and KTM 200 Duke ABS…

"On the scale, the Wolf 250 SBi has logically gained a few pounds compared to its little sister," admits Sym. And for good reason: the dry weight of the Wolf 250 reaches 173 kg, against 140 kg for the Wolf 125 whose mill develops 11 horses..

"However, this excess weight is largely taken by its 4-stroke 248.4 cc single-cylinder injection developing 25 horsepower", rebounds the manufacturer, specifying also that the mono 250 is "equipped with a balance shaft for limit vibrations at high speed ".

Faced with the Suz ‘(twin cylinder of 24.5 hp and 182 kg all full), the Sym could therefore do well. But against a Katoche of 26 ch for only 132 kg all full facts, the Wolf – like the Inazuma besides – will have no chance on the dynamic level..

On the economic front, however, the Wolf 250 SBi (3-year warranty!) Plays well: it will be available from the second half of February at a price of 3899 € for one month. After March 15, the “small average” Sym will ask for the same amount as the Inazuma, ie € 3,999. Or is 600 euros less than the 200 Duke … delivered as standard with ABS !
