Light, easy to grip and, above all, safe? this is the requirement profile that a good sports glove should meet. But which one is really the fastest to access? MOTORRAD has tested 13 models in the price range around 100 euros.

Carbon, wherever you look: on the back of the hand, on the fingertips, on the wrist, on the cuff. The lightweight construction miracle product has become indispensable in sports gloves, and hardly any manufacturer wants to do without the noble-looking bonus. But the carbon lid really offers the best protection against injuries?

Doctors know enough cases in which the bones underneath splintered despite the hard protective hood. Some experts even warn against using the penetration-resistant shells too easily. Especially if they are not adequately covered with upholstery, they can transfer the force selectively when they hit asphalt and thus increase the risk of injury to skin, tissue and bones. Especially with cheap gloves, you should feel very carefully whether the cap is well lined.
The same applies of course to upper and middle class sports gloves. In this test, none of the providers showed any weak points in this regard. Nevertheless, some models can set themselves apart even more by keeping the glove pleasantly flexible thanks to a joint under the carbon cap.

In any case, hard carbon or plastic inserts in the area of the knuckles cause far more problems. On the one hand, the fit usually suffers as a result, as the caps unnecessarily widen the fingers, and on the other hand, pressure points become annoying due to the imprecise positioning with increasing travel time. A frequent risk of injury concerns the little finger, which, due to its exposed position, is often the first to come into contact with the ground and can also twist quickly. Therefore, the edge of the hand should be appropriately reinforced up to the little finger. Some manufacturers couple ring and little fingers. However, this only works well if the entire glove is pre-curved accordingly. Otherwise, the handlebars can only be grasped with a great deal of force. On the following pages you can find out which brand has shown the best hand in the price range of around 100 euros when it comes to sports gloves.

All 13 pairings were assessed in the MOTORRAD sports glove test according to a uniform scheme and scored in the following categories: Comfort / fit (maximum 40 points): The drivers assessed the wearing behavior of the gloves on a clearly defined test round through the French Provence. If the palm throws annoying creases when you grasp it, your fingers rub against seam bulges, and the integrated protectors and lintel pads tighten?

Safety (maximum 30 points): Each test copy had to undergo a precise assessment of the protective function. Are the edges of the hands sufficiently reinforced, are padding on the balls of the hands and back of the hand used, can the glove be closed so that it cannot be removed from the skin? Workmanship / equipment (maximum 20 points): The gloves from this test cost between 80 and 120 euros. For this sum, not only high-quality workmanship can be expected. Also in focus: the type and quality of the materials used. Colouration behavior (maximum 10 points): What about the color fastness of the test subjects? In a warm water bath (30 degrees Celsius), it was simulated how much the gloves can rub off when you sweat.
