Recall Ducati Panigale V4 (2018)

Two possible oil leaks

Ducati has launched two more recalls for the new Ducati Panigale V4. A connection piece on the oil cooler may break, and oil may leak on the timing chain tensioner.

For the D.ucati Panigale V4 has two new recalls in the house. Case one: There may be leaks at the outlet connection of the oil cooler. Under extreme loads – for example on the racetrack – the outlet connection could break. The oil which then escapes creates an extreme risk of accidents. The lack of internal quality controls was noticed.

This recall affects 7,132 models from the 2018 production year worldwide, 834 machines in Germany and 1,663 vehicles in the USA. The oil cooler is replaced during a 60-minute workshop visit. The new oil cooler can be recognized by the reinforcement plates on the flanges. In Germany, the recall should start at the end of December.

Timing chain tensioner can come loose

Case 2: On the Panigale V4 models, there may be an oil leak on the timing chain tensioner. Here the screw connection of the timing chain tensioner can loosen and oil can escape from the housing, which can be deposited on the rear wheel. In such a case there is a risk of falling. Ducati is aware of two such accidents. The problem was noticed during internal quality controls.

Worldwide, 7,422 vehicles from the 2018 production year are affected by this recall, and 844 vehicles are being recalled in Germany. When the workshop is requested, the clamp is screwed on with an increased tightening torque. The duration of the workshop visit is specified as 30 to 45 minutes. In Germany, the recall will start at the end of December 2018.

Recall due to fire risk

Earlier in the year, Ducati had ordered all Panigale V4 owners with their bikes to the workshop, where a tank gasket and an O-ring had to be replaced. The strict US traffic safety authority had identified the problems. There it says that at high ambient temperatures and a certain tank fill level, gasoline can squirt out under pressure when the tank cap is opened.

In addition, a seal could have been damaged when the tank ventilation was installed, which would also result in fuel leakage. In both cases there is a risk of fire. According to internal Ducati information, there should be no connection between the recall and photos of a burning Panigale V4 allegedly from Vancouver (Canada) that appeared on the Internet. As Ducati confirmed when asked, the recall also applies to Europe. The recall affects 2,838 vehicles from model year 2018 worldwide.

Recall about brake pads

The Ducati Panigale V4 was also affected by another recall. In 240 machines around the world, the brake lining could come off the carrier plates and thus impair the effectiveness of the rear brake. The defective brake pads can be identified by lot number “672”, said a spokesman for Ducati Germany. The Ducati dealers have been checking and replacing the rear brake pads since August 22, 2018 as part of the “CR160” campaign. A maximum of one hour is specified as the duration of the workshop stay.
