Road rallies - 7th Corsica rally: Emperor Toniutti wins - Toniutti, veni, vedi, vici!

Site pilot Julien Toniutti wins the third round of the French rally championship in Corsica riding a KTM 500 EXC, after a race full of surprises in a grandiose setting but in terrible weather… Story.

Toniutti, veni, vedi, vici !

Porticcio, Year 2013 after JC: seventh rally of Corsica! We expect a very good organization from JMP Racing, now well established for its event.

The rally program and the route are different from last year: two big laps of 112.6 km each are planned for the day stage, plus a third smaller of 44.5 km. Two short tours for the night (those of 44.5 km).

Two stages per loop, making a total of ten stages for the entire rally. A nice sporting program: the ten specials will be predominant, but the tricky roads of Corsica are not to be neglected !

For this rally, the reigning French champion Julien Toniutti, KTM France official and Site driver, chose a KTM 500 EXC which should be particularly suited to Corsican roads….

But the "Number One" is a little worried, because of the rainy weather forecast: "a little rushed during last minute preparations (not easy to prepare a different motorcycle for each rally, editor’s note), I did not have the time or the material availability necessary to fit rain tires … Same diagram as for the Sarthe: if it rains, it’s dead !"Julien confessed on the eve of departure…

But so much can happen in rallying that the logic is not always followed…

Some riders on rain tires have a smile, like Nicolas Pautet, pilot of the Site team riding his old Husaberg 650 FS ("Crazy Nico" has swapped his KTM 990 Superduke for his old Husaberg 650 FS, prepared "Corsica" in black "Moon Replica" version).

Nick Ayrton, leader of the Classic category of the 2013 championship, suffered an engine failure on his Suzuki 1100 GSXR during reconnaissance … After finding the part, he fell the engine and opened it early Friday evening, the day before the departure…

And when you love, you don’t count: Nick will work on his engine until 4 in the morning! No new gaskets when closing the crankcases? No problem (Nick speaks english): a small cutout in a road book page printed too, and roll the galley: the Suzuki 1100 GSXR n ° 180 will be well at the start !

Laurent Viatli, presenter of France3 Corse, partner of the seventh Corsican rally, is at the start on the handlebars of a Kawasaki 650 ER (number 324). "I’m more used to car rallies, having sometimes taken part in races as a co-driver, but I do the Corsican rally in Porticcio because I love motorcycles", Laurent explains to Site:"I have immense respect for the bikers who ride here, I admire their know-how, now I know why I was a co-driver in rally car. They are the stars, not me !".

Other extraordinary competitors: the Galinettes team, the first all-female rally team with Jessica Mangion, a regular in rallies, Stephanie Combes and Sonia Barbot, little bits of women who send heavy, respectively on the handlebars of their KTM 690 Duke , Honda 500 CB and Suzuki 1000 GSXR. But no, the rallymen are not (only) machos !
