Following its delay of one week (read), the 2011 French rally championship begins this weekend with the Sun Rally in Solliès-Pont (83). The 2011 championship, with no less than seven rallies planned, promises many twists and turns !

The start of the first rally of the 2011 French championship will be given this Friday, March 18 in the evening at Solliès-Pont, in the Var. The Sun Rally, developed by the Machiavellian organizer of the Ultimate Rally, Patrick Bournisien, may not be just fun…

Despite the appalling weather, Site went to reconnoitre the route with Thomas Garcin on his Ducati Streetfighter. One thing is certain: the first Sun Rally will not be a rally of squats: with around 300 km to cover for the night stage on Friday evening then 350 km for the day stage on Saturday, eight road specials and a significant part done. road-book navigation (the route is not marked), the opening of the 2011 French rally championship promises to be memorable…

Following in the footsteps of the legendary Rallye automobile du Var, the Sun Rally is already proving a boom in the “road rally” discipline: as soon as registration opened in September 2010, applications poured in and the rally filled up to 180 engaged in a very short time. Those on the waiting list can only hope for last minute withdrawals…

The forces involved

Bad luck on the other hand for Pierre Mouneu of Team Site: for family reasons, the n ° 2 of the French championship will not be able to be present this weekend on the handlebars of his Yamaha 450 YZF "rally". Courage Moon, it’s only a postponement !

A blow also for the reigning French champion, Manoël Delaval, who withdraws from the competition following a sudden break with Honda.

Last minute

Update March 18, 2011 : Pierre Mouneu of Team Site will finally line up at the start of the Sun Rally but riding his Husaberg !

With the packages of Pierre "Moon" Mouneu and Manoël Delaval, it is the n ° 3 Maxime Mettra of the Team Site, on his KTM 950 Supermoto, who will start in first position. But although leader of the troop in this first round of the championship, Maxime will not be to be feared for the applicants for the 2011 title, because family and professional imperatives will only allow him to run some of the seven events..
His 2011 objectives are rather focused on the Ultimate Rally, where he will try to renew his 2010 victory, and on the Dark Dog Moto Tour..

The favorites for this first rally of the season are more on the side of the locals, with in particular Wilfried Tallone, a top rider ex-French Supermotard champion, second in the Belgian Moto Tour 2007, registered as a VIP on a Ducati Hypermotard SP EVO 1100 of the Squadra Moto Club. And Thomas Garcin, driver "", also in VIP, should not be in the lace on the handlebars of his Ducati 1100 Streetfighter either. !

The Team Site always motivated !

In addition to the satisfaction of seeing the 2011 French Championship opened by one of its pilots despite the absence of Pierrot Mouneu, the Team rallye du Journal moto du Net is striking a blow this year with the majority of its pilots on motorcycles " official ".

Julien Toniutti, favorite for the 2011 title, will ride a KTM 990 Superduke supplied by. Proud as a tobacco bar between Eric Antunes (commercial director) and Reinhold Zens (the big boss of KTM France), Julien should be talked about riding the beautiful Austrian with the support of KTM France, Acro Bike, 2RTeam, Michelin, Motul, Afam, Bihr, Beringer, Kutvek Graphik, Moto tachometer, Lesmotards.com and SEPR.

The hope of the band, Nicolas "Crazy" Pautet, the young dingo of the team helped by Yamaha Motor France, is given a Yamaha FZ8 (with an air of "R" …) from the hands of Pierre Chapuis, manager of the Yamaha dealership in Bourg en Bresse,. Crazy is also supported by Supervision X, Tom’s Cuir, Acrobike, Kutvek Kitgraphik, Pipo and Lolo (the kings of the green pot!).

As for the humble Marcus Himself, he can’t seem to part with his FZ8 that he piloted at the last Dark Dog Moto Tour: entrusted by the boss of the Yamaha dealership in Toulouse, Joël Grazide, this FZ8 will allow him to set off to the conquest of the title "Veteran" (pilots over 45 years old) !

Among the team’s KTMs, Michel Bonneau, vice international rally champion, will also be driving a motorcycle made available by a dealer: Moto Passion in Rouen provided him with a KTM 990 Superduke. Michel should also be noticed this season: not yet classified as "Veteran" for a few days, Michel should still play in the top 10 of the championship !

A great regret therefore for Pierre Mouneu, the vice-champion of France 2010, who, thanks to the help of Yamaha Motor France, will drive this year (from the second event no doubt, the Rallye de la Sarthe) a Yamaha 450 YZF specially approved to be able to participate in road rally events. The Moon should work miracles on the handlebars of such a fighter plane !

The Team Site therefore leaves well armed this year, always with the invaluable support of, and, faithful partners of the adventure. Hopefully the sun will return at least from Friday: to greet the first Sun Rally, it’s still the least of things … See you in Solliès-Pont on Friday, then on the Motorcycle Journal of the Net from Monday for the full account of the adventure !
