Road rallies - The rally of experience! -

The 70th Rallye de l’Ain offered this weekend a superb event, faithful to the rallies of yesteryear: an old one is going down in history since Alain Amblard takes the lead in the overall final cumulative scratch classification of these two events.. Report.

Nice morning on Saturday in Poncin during technical controls, with superb motorcycles in bright colors under the sun, whatever the time of year. From the MV "Brutale" to the Godier Genoud via the twin-cylinder 550 Aprilia, all the ingredients were there to make this 70th edition of the Rallye de l’Ain a sublime event. !

"A hard rally !", according to the general opinion of the participants, due to terrible climatic conditions especially at night, with an incessant rain which fell on a course however magical during the day…

Magnificent landscapes, a precise road book and roads with remarkable scenery: Ain, its valley, its mountains … Something to amaze everyone! But it was a real French championship event as it was so selective, including a loop of three very technical specials, one of which (Bolozon) had already seen the Dark Dog Moto Tour pass in 2004 (read).

Everything seemed to be going well during the week of reconnaissance with splendid weather in the Ain valley … But the weather became uncertain from the start of the race: the daytime event was mixed with mid-stage specials. dry, half-wet, while the night had become very clear: rain, downpours, hail and fog !

At the end of the day test, we find Alain Amblard at the top of the ranking! Alain had left the French Rally Championship for a good dozen years but returned in 2005 out of passion, he is now at the gates of a scratch title, occupied for the moment by a particularly motivated Gregory Debize !

"In Dourdou it must be done !"Greg confides to Moto-Net with the firm intention of winning this next event in Rodez, scheduled for the weekend of July 14, thus pocketing the title of French rally champion 2006.

Doubt remains in fact as to the real existence of the Rallye des Baous in Nice … Rodez could therefore be the final round of the 2006 championship..

Alain Amblard, winner of this 70th Rallye de l’Ain, very modestly declares that he has "rolled like before and I see it still works, it’s nice !"

Numerous accidents have punctuated this rally in the Ain, in particular that of the crew of the Hayabusa (DJ Sport) sidecar of Faustino and Clergeau, following a crash in a special in the fog. Pilot Jean Paul Faustino is still in hospital with multiple leg fractures and other bruises…

Bad eyes also for BMW with a "crash" in recognition putting out of the race Herve Ricord and his 1200 GS, which collides with Florent Parret but does not prevent the latter from ranking fourth scratch (third Top Sport).

Another regrettable accident, that of Pierre Lemos and his BMW 1100 HP2 from Recchia Motos in Lyon. While progressing in his times, Pierre fell in the special following a start delayed by timing problems: cold tires, game over and triple ankle fracture….

With his third place during the day and winning the night, Gregory Debize increased his lead in points and comfortably retained the lead of the provisional scratch championship. Riding his faithful 750 GSXR prepared by the D n’D team from Beauregard in Ain, Greg signs special scratches with astonishing times: 1’57 at Bolozon on the first pass in front of Yves Constantin (Yamaha R1) no less astonishing but well below (2’11).

In the Sport category we find Mickael Pefaure, CSRT pilot, very efficient during the day stage with his 400 Yamaha WRF. He lost in the night stage in front of Thierry Canazzi who kept the lead of the provisional classification of the category on the handlebars of his 400 KTM by winning hands down the night stage. !

In Sidecar, Laurent Guillet’s crew on a harnessed Hayabusa won the rally for the category following the accident to Faustino who won the day stage and the mechanical breakage (chain cut! ) of Herve Laur, then classified third of the day…

Finally in Mono it is obviously Alain Amblard who wins on his 660 KTM while in Classics it is Langelotti who takes first place on his 350 RDLC.

Final scratch podium: first Alain Amblard, second Gregory Debize, third Yves Constantin. In the provisional classification of the championship we therefore find Greg with 22 points ahead of Alain Amblard who is now in second position with 77 points. Thomas Laroche meanwhile climbs one place with 62 points while Thierry Canazzi loses two places and finds himself fourth with 3 points behind.

A rather varied provisional ranking where we find three categories represented in the first four: Debize in Top Sport, Amblard in Mono and Canazzi in Sport while the Hayabusa "Hechard" sidecar of Laurent Guillet is 15th in the provisional.

Finally, note the good old-fashioned atmosphere after the awards ceremony at the Amblards, where the champagne was poured without moderation !

See you at the Rallye du Dourdou on the weekend of July 14 for the third (and last?) Round of the 2006 championship…
