The Californian bicycle manufacturer presented its first electric motorcycle with the Sondors Metacycle on January 14th. Deliveries in the USA are scheduled to begin in the 4th quarter of 2021.

The model range of the manufacturer from Malibu, California, so far only included bicycles with electric auxiliary motors – the portfolio ranges from children’s bikes to fat bikes with e-drives for adults. Now Sondors is entering the electric motorcycle market.

Sondors Metacycle falls into the light motorcycle class

The Sondors Metacycle, with a top speed of 130 km / h and a nominal output of 8 kW (around 11 PS), falls into the class of light motorcycles and should therefore be driven in Germany with the A1 driver’s license. Sondors specifies the short-term maximum output of the wheel hub motor with 14.5 kW, the equivalent of 20 PS. According to the manufacturer, the nominal maximum torque is 108 Nm, temporarily a peak value of 176 Nm can be reached. The battery is replaceable and should provide a range of 130 kilometers. The charging time is probably around four hours, a 110V AC charger is included in the scope of delivery.

The Sondors Metacycle weighs just 90 kilograms (empty weight). This is not only due to the airy frame, but above all to the fact that the electric motorcycle is made entirely of aluminum. Braking is carried out at the front and rear with a single disc system from ByBre. The driver operates both brakes using the hand levers on the handlebars. A USD fork from WP provides damping at the front and a central spring strut at the rear. The seat height is 80 centimeters.

Charge your smartphone wirelessly

For the lighting, Sondors reaches into the LED box, the round headlight at the front is also equipped with daytime running lights in addition to the low and high beams. Between the seat and the handlebars, the Sondors e-motorcycle has a compartment that fits a smartphone and can be charged wirelessly.

In the USA, the Metacycle can now be pre-ordered for a deposit of US $ 100. The purchase price is $ 5,000, with taxes and shipping added. The Sondors Metacycle is available in black, white and silver. It is not known whether the manufacturer plans to sell to Europe.
