“You can’t go wrong there!” – A striking argument from bandit sellers. At least that’s right if you don’t care about the driving dynamics and appearance, but you are looking for a reliable, non-stressful, yet potent and long-distance motorcycle. At a fair rate. With manageable maintenance costs. Reason in its purest form, and that shouldn’t sound disrespectful at all, because such a nimbus has to be worked hard for. Got the big bandit. Whereby primarily its predecessor, the 1200 series built from 1996 to 2006, has built up the good reputation as a top equivalent motorcycle. Then came the Euro 3 standard and, as a result, the 1250 series. With a new engine, it has been running its official business as a big bike bestseller since 2007, discreetly, but dutifully. Without the fine cooling fins so popular with bandit fans, because they are water-cooled, but with noticeably more torque. Over 100 Newton meters at just 3,500 rpm – bam! On the engine side, therefore, more sovereign than the 1200s, and on the chassis side too, because it is firmer, stiffer and more direct.

Low price level: around half of all offers are of a private nature. These used vehicles usually have more than 30,000 kilometers under their belt and show visible signs of use. Only a few machines are younger than 2010, the bare version is rare.

Average price level: You can easily find well-maintained S variants for around 5,000 euros, which have already been pimped up into pure touring machines with a lot of accessories. The nude, which was visually refreshed from the year of construction 2010, can be seen sporadically at this price level.

One has the feeling – some dealers confirm this – the former bestseller Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S has mutated into a slow seller. Is that correct?
The concept is getting on in years, so it is understandable that nobody is standing in front of the motorcycle in astonishment. On the other hand, not much has changed with tourers and sports tourers, especially with Suzuki the last few years have been more or less standstill. But our touring riders want to be taken care of, and since there is hardly any interesting new item on offer, they fall back on tried and tested products and look around for used vehicles that are as good as new. A bandit then fits the demands. So the demand is there. Well-maintained Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S with an odometer reading of less than 5,000 kilometers I can get rid of just below a discounted new price. The used prices for such machines are stable.
That is surprising. Who are the buyers??
The age of the clientele is 50 plus. Touring rider. They actually want electronic helpers, top equipment and lots of bells and whistles, but shy away from high investments. I like to refer to the bandit as “Trial tourer”. For a few thousand there is a motorcycle that offers sufficient performance and a lot of comfort on long journeys, even with pillion passenger and luggage. I also have people switching from the BMW K 1200 S and other more luxurious touring machines who want to save on maintenance and repair costs in the long term – the Bandit is very cheap there. And then there are loyal Suzuki drivers. Of those, I had five customers who had switched from the Bandit to the current GSX-S 1000 sports tourer, but who missed the great torque and therefore saddled back again. These were drivers who just wanted to lurch through the 30 km / h zone in full relaxation in fifth gear. The Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S with its extremely flexible engine can do that really well.
The good old Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S is therefore more attractive than modern new goods?
No, it’s not that simple either. Bandit drivers would also like to have traction control, cornering ABS, integrated luggage systems and other current standards. Plus cardan. But that’s how you live with somewhat antiquated tube racks and old-fashioned suitcases, use touring windows and bench seats from the accessory market and still install heated grips and a chain lubrication system – and the comfort touring bike you knit yourself is ready. For comparatively little money.
Facelift
2007 New models Suzuki Bandit 1250 (type: WVCH; model: GSF1250A) and half-boarded Suzuki Bandit 1250 S (model: GSF1250SA) replace the GSF 1200 / S Bandit. Significant differences to the predecessor: water-cooled four-cylinder engine with injection and more torque meets the Euro 3 standard, stroke increases by five millimeters to 64 millimeters, bore remains the same. Double throttle valves, six instead of five-speed gearbox, balance shaft, new exhaust. Reinforced frame beams and, in comparison, tighter spring elements. ABS as standard. Specified curb weight: 251 kg for the Bandit 1250 and 254 kg for the Bandit 1250 S. Prices Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S: 8,435 / 8,735 euros.
2008 New prices Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S: 8,490 / 8,790 euros.
2009 ABS light yellow instead of previously red. New prices Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S: 8,890 / 9,190 euros.
2010 Model upgrade for GSF1250A: engine housing in black, modified oil and fuel pump, clutch, gear lever, pinion cover; Plastic radiator cover instead of aluminum; Exhaust trim oval instead of round; Position of passenger footrests (10 mm further forward and 4 mm higher), headlights and instruments new; Rear fairing slimmer; Taillight narrower; new turn signals. With type GSF1250SA no technical changes apart from the black painted motor housing. Prices Suzuki Bandit 1250 / S: 9,190 / 9,390 euros.
