With new bikes into the new year
EICMA 2019
The Italian manufacturer SWM, which has been part of the Shineray Group since 2014, is entering the 2020 model year with two completely new A2 bikes, which will also be available in a similar form as a 125cc version.

SWM Varez 400
The A2-compatible SWM Varez 400 is one of two brand new motorcycles from SWM that were unveiled at EICMA in Milan and will hit the streets in the 2020 model year. SWM equips the sporty naked bike with a newly developed, 400cc single-cylinder engine, for which there is currently no performance data. However, it is said to be the first SWM engine to meet the Euro 5 standard. This information has not yet been confirmed by SWM.
Jorg Kunstle
The Varez 400 has a newly developed and Euro 5 compliant engine.
When dry, the Varez 400 should weigh around 150 kilograms. Visually, the naked bike certainly knows how to please. The bright red lacquered steel tubular space frame in particular immediately catches the eye. The rather short wheelbase and what appears to be a relatively long swing arm should provide sporty accents. For the tires, SWM seems to rely on tires from Michelin, while for the brakes, at least judging by the pictures, components from Brembo are used. In addition, there seems to be an LC display on board. An upside-down fork can also be seen in the pictures. So far we have seen the Varez 400 in two paint finishes: a black and a red and white variant. The manufacturer has not yet announced whether there are further paintwork. It is scheduled to hit the market from the beginning of 2020. The new SWM Varez 400 will cost 5,190 euros (plus ancillary costs).
SWM Outlaw 440
The second newcomer to the SWM portfolio is the Outlaw 500, which also celebrated its premiere at EICMA 2019. In contrast to the Varez 400 just presented, the Outlaw has already made some technical data public. The retro bike is powered by the well-known 440 single-cylinder engine from the Chinese manufacturer Shineray, which is also installed in other models such as the Gran Milano. The drive should continue to deliver 30 hp at 7,000 rpm and 36 Nm at 5,500 rpm on the new bike.

The Outlaw 500 wants to attract attention with its scrambler look.
SWM has not yet commented on the weight of the outlaw. According to the manufacturer, 16.5 liters should fit into the tank. SWM specifies 813 mm for the seat height and the wheelbase is 1,416 mm. Visually, the bike with the double exhaust, and not least because of the studded tires, is reminiscent of a classic scrambler. SWM has not yet commented on the paint finishes available. In addition to a silver-gray version, another version with the SWM logo and an ornate “500” lettering on the tank and a red-gray bench seat could be seen at EICMA 2019. The price is 5,490 euros (plus additional costs).
Varez & Outlaw also as a 125cc
By the way, SWM is not only thinking of A2 driving license holders – two new models will also be supplied to the A1 offspring in the coming year. When it comes to optics, SWM relies on continuity and virtually brings smaller copies of the Varez and Outlaw onto the market – just with a smaller drive. The Outlaw 125 will also be available in another model variant called Ace of Spades.
Jorg Kunstle
The Varez will also be available as a 125 in model year 2020.
SWM has also already commented on the power: the 125 cc drive should provide 15 hp at 10,500 rpm and 11 Nm at 7,000 rpm. This means that the identical motor is used as in the well-known 125 cc from SWM. Otherwise, the new 125s are just as pretty to look at as the new A2 motorcycles described above. The two outlaw models are said to be available from 3,890 euros. The Varez 125 is a bit more expensive and costs 4,190 euros.
Sixdays 440, SM 500 R & Super dual T / X & 125cc
In addition to the two newcomers, there are also a few more bikes in the SWM model portfolio for 2020. The more powerful motorcycles include the well-known SWM Sixdays 440, SWM SM 500 R and SWM Superdual T / X. As in the previous year, some 125 cc, for example the SWM SM 125 R, are also available.

Conclusion
Fancy! The new retro models from SWM are visually appealing. When it comes to model strategy, the Italian manufacturer relies primarily on youngsters and beginners who have an A1 or A2 driver’s license. The question that remains is how well the motorcycles perform on the road.
