It’s all in the mix

When it comes to textile suits of the upper middle class, names are by no means smoke and mirrors. Gore against Sympa and Hydratex, Cordura 500D against polyamide 6.6 ?? only those who enter the field with a convincing mix of materials can win the battle for the customer.

The Revit suit looks really good. And is very versatile. While driving, both testers liked it with its great fit. Actually great, but
In the wet test, the otherwise convincing Revit lost points because of the leaky Hydratex membrane. Also provided with many practical details such as a warm collar, sets Buse in climate issues on the ?? at least
in the MOTORRAD wetness test ?? waterproof Sympatex membrane and uses proven Cordura upper material for the tested combination. That gets top marks.
Hein Gericke doesn’t skimp on expensive, tried-and-tested fabrics such as Gore-Tex, Cordura, Dynax or Schoeller Dynatec, and the new “Cruise” is also equipped with full CE protectors. The customer may not notice that at first glance? MOTORRAD appreciated it very much. Overall a
coherent overall product, great, test victory! Buse and Hein Gericke prove that, thanks to a carefully selected combination of materials, they have made their already good products of the lower middle class (see test »Textilkom-
up to 350 euros «in MOTORRAD 9/2005).
That’s not to say that the other station wagons can’t keep up. The chic Italo station wagon from Dainese combines fashionable, linear design with functionality suitable for motorcycles. Without any real outliers, the extremely solidly made Danish Dane station wagon scores in the front row. Ixs and Stadler could work on a better fit of the jackets, but they also deliver good quality overall. Only the mediocre Arlen Ness Something falls out of line in this strong test field. But even if there was hardly a lack of fine materials at Arlen Ness:
There always has to be a loser.

Wetness and protector test

To check whether the textile suits are waterproof, they were subjected to a moisture test standardized by MOTORRAD. For this purpose, a test person is exposed to a jet of water, which corresponds to a heavy thunderstorm, for exactly ten minutes on a stationary motorcycle. On the undergarments worn by the tester (pro
Textile suit a set of dry, long cotton underwear), leaks can be easily detected after the test run and depending on the strength of the water ingress
Point deduction. Completely tight suits receive 25 points.
Based on the CE standard 1621-1 / 1621-2, MOTORRAD checked in the measuring laboratory of
Sas-Tec company in Markgroningen the shock absorption values of the correspondingly certified protectors. In order to pass the test, the recorded residual force as an average value must not exceed 35 kilo-newtons (kN) after several impacts within the measuring device. If a single blow is over 50 kN, the protector has also failed. In addition, to evaluate the »safety« criterion, the course of the increase in force when measuring the shock absorption, the upper materials in areas at risk of falling, and the protector seat and size were taken into account.

Point of view of editor Thorsten Dentges

Twice as expensive, twice as good? That’s only partly true, says MOTORRAD editor Thorsten Dentges.

Good Excellent ?? with one exception, the grades of the
currently tested textile suits. But let’s be honest, is
a surprise at a purchase price of around 700 euros? Flashback: MOTORRAD (Issue 9/2005) recently tested eight waterproof textile suits that were half as expensive. Four of them also got good grades and are highly recommended. The cheaper station wagons are sometimes very fashionable
in no way inferior to conservatively styled, expensive suits,
they are often equipped with the same CE protectors, and unlike in the past, many of the cheaper products are no longer cut like a potato sack, but convince with a good fit
and high wearing comfort. One could draw the following conclusion: Instead of wasting money on expensive station wagons, it is better to buy a new, cheaper part on a regular basis
treat. Fair-weather and occasional drivers can confidently follow this rule. Anyone who uses their station wagon practically every day, drives in wind and weather and knows no limits on their motorcycle trips must be able to rely one hundred percent on their functional clothing. The more expensive station wagons cost so much because they were subjected to various tests, including endurance tests, before they were launched. Practice shows that
on Gore-Tex, Cordura and other high-tech materials,
for whom a large development effort is made, is reliable. Even after years of hard use, they literally won’t leave you out in the rain or angry
blossoms. That is not necessarily worth double the price, but a very understandable purchase argument.

Lorica Sueta: Nubuck leather substitute made from a microfiber fabric (50 percent polyamide and polyurethane)
Dynax: very abrasion-resistant polyamide textile fabric, mainly for those at risk of falling

similar to Cordura, but with 660 denier
