The Speed Triple – Triumph’s most iconic roadster. Brother of the big Daytona, he started his career nicely with the T309 version of 1994, acquired his status as a thug with the T509, confirmed his athletic potential in 1050 cm3 … to end up 21 years later in this special series. The Speed 94R commemorates more than two decades of punk and muscular character and style.
The Speed Triple really asserted itself in 1997, when the T 509 adopted a sports chassis and especially the famous double optics which disturbed and hypnotized everyone. It has sublimated itself in its R version, with full Ohlins damping. Does the Speed 94R combine the best of both? To judge subjectively, because only the dress and a few details distinguish this Speed.
With a nostalgic selection for genuine fans of the brand. They will not be entitled to the return of round headlights (yet popular) but to scents of the past. On the sides, the calligraphy is the same as the villainous versions of the 90s. The yellow color reminds us of the acidity of the colors of the old Speed (apple green, plum mauve, racing yellow) and hits immediately. So, why not have it imported to France ???? Only black will be available.
The Speed 94R gains a commemorative plaque on the tank, a yellow border on the rims, a black finish on the exhausts, the engine guard, the windscreen and the tank cap. The original passenger is a seat cowl to match the body.
As an R, this 1994-scented Speed Triple heals its handling with a fire-stinged 955 Daytona frame supported by a NIX30 fork and TTX36 shock provided by Ohlins. Braking is entrusted to Brembo monobloc calipers biting 320 mm. As for the engine, it no longer competes with the monsters in the segment; but 135 horsepower in the boiler, it remains strong. The three-cylinder will still provoke a number of sporting rides.
This Speed 94R looks at the past with today’s technology, a kind of nod before handing over to a generation as muscular as it is digital. Here, it’s injection and ABS; but traction control point, multiple maps or the electronics of a Rafale. This reference from a time celebrates here the memory of the birth of streetfighters. With the “So British” spirit of course.
