In order to harmonize performance, the FIM has planned to introduce several minimum weights: 150 kg for the "big" Honda twin, 136 kg for the "medium" KTM single cylinder and 140 kg for the "small but strong" Kawasaki twin cylinders and Yamaha. Maximum engine speeds must also be respected.

On the handlebars of these different motorcycles will be young riders (minimum 15 years old) eager to make a name for themselves internationally. Vito Ippolito, President of the FIM: "This new platform will be the perfect environment to develop the talents of tomorrow. The intention of the WorldSSP 300 is to create a benchmark for national championships. We want to provide a regulated and relatively equal environment in which talents can grow and in which the manufacturers will be able to accompany the young pilots from their first steps until the consecration ".

Javier Alonso, Executive Director of WorldSBK: “The aim is to provide an affordable category for young competitors. There has been great interest in low displacement motorcycles in this sport and the new WorldSSP 300 category aims to deliver that. It will be promoted by manufacturers as a easily accessible championship, the best possible platform to grow future stars where manufacturers can support drivers from an early age and follow them throughout their careers ".
