Statements from the first Superbike race
Carlos Checa, 1st: "It was a fantastic race, we struggled yesterday to qualify in the wet, but today it was even more difficult for the Ducatis and the guys at the front because it was not easy to overtake and all the world went fast. I didn’t want to make a mistake. At the very end I attacked very hard, and I didn’t expect Haslam to push so hard. I saw him brake very late, the track cleared in front of me and I had a great victory. It was like a home race for the team, an important race".
Lorenzo Lanzi, 2nd: "It’s a very good day for me: an Italian on the podium is so fantastic. My team worked very well this weekend, the conditions were difficult, with or without rain, it was very strange. Yesterday in Superpole I worked a lot because I wanted to finish on the podium in the race, it’s important for next year. I led the race for a few laps which was very good, it had been so long since I could remember what it was !"
Noriyuki Haga, 3rd: "It’s a very good result after a very difficult race, because the conditions were also difficult: it was getting hotter and hotter and I was starting from 14th place on the grid. Here the first lap is still very dangerous, but I found a good pace for the race. I couldn’t catch up with Lorenzo, but I’m very happy with the result. Like last year, I rode well at Imola, the Ducatis form the Top 3 so I’m very happy".
