Kenan Sofuoglu got off to a good start and posted his Kawasaki n ° 54 in front of Patrick Jacobsen, Kev Coghlan, Lorenzo Zanetti, Michael van den Mark, Jules Cluzel, Alessandro Nocco, Roberto Tamburini, Marco Bussolotti, Ratthapark Wilairot and Florian Marino, qualified (on the wet) in 16th place !
Sofuoglu completes the first lap almost a second ahead! Coghlan was alone in second as Zanetti made a successful attack on Jacobsen on the descent from Craner Curves. Cluzel whips his MV Agusta to stay in contact with the leading peloton and Van den Mark follows a few lengths.
Marino attacks hard on his Ninja and leads the second group made up of Wilairot, Kennedy and Bussolotti. In front, Kenan Sofuoglu realizes that Kev Coghlan will not let go … No more than Zanetti, moreover, who overtakes the Yamaha n ° 88 in the 4th lap !
The leading men regroup in the following loop: the Turkish n ° 54 is ahead of the Italian n ° 26, the Briton n ° 88, the American n ° 99 and the French n ° 16. The Dutch n ° 60, Michael van den Mark turns a little faster than the Top 5 and is only a small second behind.
Seventh in the race, Florian Marino has a lot to do with Kennedy, Tamburini, De Rosa and Rolfo … The French Ninja does not seem able to join Van den Mark with whom he shared the lead of the championship when arriving at Donington Park…
Shortly before the halfway point, Sofuoglu once again gained a one-second lead over his pursuers. Cluzel moves closer to the podium by nabbing Jacobsen for his fourth place, then Zanetti folds under another attack from Coghlan in Melbourne…
At the end of the 11th lap, under the Esses braking, the rear wheel of the leading ZX-6R seems to lock up … The Turk suddenly drops his pace and lets his pursuers pass in front of the pits: Coghlan takes the lead of the race, followed by Zanetti and Cluzel, who made great signs to his competitors in the previous braking…
No problem, however, for Cluzel who climbed to second position one lap later in the same Esses while Van den Mark failed to crash at the end of the same sequence! Our "Coq Supersportif" takes control of the race by diving under the R6 of Coghlan in Coppice…
Zanetti in turn launched an attack on the Yamaha rider with the – big – braking of Melbourne but could not dive towards the rope … He let the R6 pass just in front of his wheel and lost a few lengths … Still on the track, Sofuoglu resumed his rhythm and away from Jacobsen and Marino.
The engine of the CBR600RR of n ° 26 (that of Zanetti) breaks with five laps from the end! Cluzel now leads ahead of Van den Mark and Coghlan. The three men are almost three seconds ahead of Sofuoglu and about five over Marino and Jacobsen.
Van den Mark passed Cluzel on the 16th passage through Melbourne. The Frenchman tries to reciprocate the Dutchman a lap later but widens and stays behind the # 60 Honda. Coghlan is no longer close enough to take advantage of the fight … Sofuoglu continues to attack and climbs a big second from the Yamaha with two laps to go..
The two leading men made a relatively calm penultimate lap and launched themselves into the last one, always wheel to wheel! Cluzel is careful not to launch his attack too soon. The Frenchie comes out of the Fogarty Esses inside his rival … and a little stronger !
Cluzel then delays his braking as much as possible in Melbourne and widens very slightly … Van den Mark was not asking for so much and slips his Honda under the MV Agusta of our compatriot! Michael manages the last pin perfectly and takes his second victory this season, ahead of Cluzel and Coghlan.
The Honda Pata rider now alone dominates the Supersport World Championship with 90 points. The two Frenchmen Florian Marino and Jules Cluzel follow at 14 and 28 lengths respectively. Triple Champion Sofuoglu is only seventh (38 points) behind Coghlan, Zanetti and De Rosa…
