The new Yamaha Tenere 700 should cut a particularly good figure on and off the road.

Is the new Tenere a radical two-cylinder sports enduro or a mid-range travel machine?

Yamaha has probably hit the middle pretty much.

The cockpit is deliberately reminiscent of the current Yamaha rally machines. There should also be space for navigation systems, road books or smartphones.

The crossplane in-line twin is known to us from the MT-07. Performance data: 75 hp at 9,000 rpm and 68 Nm maximum torque at 6,500 rpm.

We can’t tell you today what the sound of the series exhaust sounds like. In the article, however, the soundcheck video of the prototype may already give you a foretaste.

21 inches at the front, 18 inches at the back – the Yamaha Tenere 700 wants to shine both on and off-road.

In terms of optics, Yamaha oriented itself more towards the attribute “robust” than on “Noble”. Good this way.

Yamaha Tenere 700
Accessory packages for Adventure Bike
In 2019 it will finally be launched on the market, the new Yamaha Tenere 700. About time, because our mouths have been watering since the T7 study was presented in Milan in 2016. It can be pre-ordered until the end of July, now there are two new accessory packages.

In 1976 the XT 500 was presented, which was then produced for 14 successful years. The XT 600 Z followed in 1983 – like the 500, a single cylinder. At the end of the 1989s, the Tenere series was expanded to include the two-cylinder XTZ 750 Super Tenere, which was produced until 1997, and the XTZ 660 Tenere was added in the early 1990s. The XT 660 Z Tenere with the liquid-cooled single cylinder, which has been in production since 2008, left the Yamaha portfolio for the 2016 model year.
First customers receive a special price
In autumn 2018 the time had finally come: the successor Yamaha Tenere 700 is in the starting blocks for series production. In the colors Ceramic Ice, Competition White and Power Black. As of today, Yamaha has an online ordering system (https://tenere700.yamaha-motor.eu/) unlocked. The first deliveries scheduled for July 2019 will be allocated to online customers according to the first-come / first-served principle at the special price of 9,299 euros. The price applies exclusively to online orders until the online ordering system is switched off on July 31, 2019. After taking the first online orders, Yamaha will start delivering the Tenere 700 to dealers throughout Europe from September 2019 at the standard price of 9,599 euros.
Engine and power
The 689 cm³ in-line twin from the MT-07 takes care of the performance. As in the naked bike, the almost 74 hp crossplane engine should provide its maximum torque of 68 Nm at 6,500 rpm. A 48 hp variant is also available.
Frame and weight
The double-loop tubular steel frame, which is said to be particularly light, was completely redeveloped for the Yamaha Tenere 700. However, Yamaha has not yet communicated any specific figures on the weight of the new adventure bike. The prototype that we were allowed to test drive in 2017 weighed 185 kilos. But we estimate that the series machine will weigh somewhere between 210 and 220 kilos.
Chassis and wheels
Jorg Kunstle
At the EICMA, the Tenere 700 and the prototype T7 stand next to each other on the Yamaha stand.
The 43 millimeter thick telescopic fork of the Yamaha Tenere 700 offers a spring travel of 210 millimeters, at the rear it is 200 millimeters. The rally-proven suspension with deflection lever should ensure control and comfort, the aluminum swing arm for low weight on the part of the unsprung masses. The pilot can fine-tune the preload settings remotely while driving.
A 90/90 tire rotates on a 21-inch rim at the front, a 150/70 tire is mounted on an 18-inch rim at the rear – this underlines the off-road ambitions of the new Yamaha Tenere 700. Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR are fitted as standard.
Cockpit, optics and functionality
The new Tenere 700 with its front headlights is very close to the prototype and the Yamaha rally bikes: four LED headlights ensure clear visibility, and two LED position lights are also attached. The cockpit with an LC display also has a rally look and provides information on the gear engaged, fuel level, range and average consumption, while the tapered handlebars ensure a relaxed sitting and standing position.
The bench is flat and embeds the pilot at a height of 880 millimeters. Yamaha states that the ground clearance is 240 millimeters. The tank is nice and narrow, holds 16 liters and is supposed to provide a range of over 350 kilometers. The ABS can be switched off for off-road use, and a fairing screen and hand protectors are standard equipment.
In addition, Yamaha offers a wide range of original accessories so that anyone interested can configure their very own Tenere 700.
Rally and Explorer package
In addition, the Japanese have already pre-configured two complete packages for the Tenere from the existing range of accessories. The Explorer Packet is aimed at long-distance travelers and includes, among other things, two aluminum side cases with a total capacity of 72 liters, a main stand, a larger and thicker engine protection plate and a solo seat luggage rack. The rally package is ideal for those who are more off-road oriented. Among other things, this offers a higher and more level seat, an Akrapovic slip-on rear silencer, a modified chain guard, a radiator protector, a tank pad and a new license plate holder with LED indicators. Yamaha has not yet announced prices for the packages.

Yamaha T7 – a wild, long-legged study presented at EICMA 2016. With its aluminum tank, quadruple LED headlights and carbon cladding, the concept bike was in some ways more like a pure competition than an all-purpose enduro suitable for travel.
Dentges
Photographer Markus Jahn, editor Markus Biebricher and Karlheinz Vetter, PR manager at Yamaha Germany (from left to right), who refueled the Yamaha T7 concept bike.
Maybe a good thing, because the Yamaha T7 concept started at the Dakar rally in early 2017, albeit out of competition, instead as an advertising medium for the enduro Yamaha Tenere 700, which will be launched on the market for the 2019 season.
The chassis of the rally prototype developed in Europe for Yamaha came largely from the Enduro WR 450 with an upside-down fork with 310 millimeters of spring travel and a suspension strut articulated via a lever system.
