Zontes from China throws the kit through again and with wire rims, studded tires, duck blades and a short fender, the 125 U becomes the 125 Hypertrail.

Technically and economically, a functioning modular system makes perfect sense and China forge Zontes shows that this type of construction is also widespread in their halls. Change little, achieve a lot

With just a few changes to the bodywork of the 125 U and the installation of spoke rims with studded tires, Zontes achieved a great effect: The front fender is divided and a duck’s bill is mounted under the lamp mask. The steep rear, the angular tank and the massive effect are also retained in the Hypertrail. The frame, swing arm, real ABS brake and fork also appear to be the same as the 125 U. And yet: a new motorcycle is created.

The Zontes 125cc single is water-cooled, delivers in the 125 U and probably also in the Hypertrail Euro 5 compliant 15 HP and is specified with 16 Nm torque. With a tank capacity of 12.5 liters and a specified consumption of 1.8 liters per 100 kilometers, a range of almost 700 kilometers is possible. That would be enough for a stage of the Dakar Rally. It is shifted using a 6-speed gearbox and an anti-hopping clutch. The ABS comes from Bosch, light comes from all-round built-in LED lamps. Studded tires in the usual market dimensions 110/70 and 130/70 are installed on the spoke rims. However, only on 17-inch rims, which makes the Dakar difficult again. Speaking of heavy: the Zontes 125 Hypertrail should weigh 150 kilograms when ready to drive.

Prices and availability

Zontes has not yet communicated a price or availability for Germany for Hypertrail. In France, however, it should cost 3,590 euros, which means an extra 200 euros for the 125 U. Coined in Germany, the Zontes 125 Hypertrail would cost around 3,200 euros.

Conclusion

Change little, achieve a lot. Successful modular systems can help manufacturers to put together a wide range of products quickly. Zontes is clearly following this path with the Hypertrail. May the plan work.
