In a short message, Suzuki Germany announced on Monday (November 2nd, 2020) that they would no longer be available as a pool partner of the IDM (International German Motorcycle Championship) for the 2021 season.

Withdrawal from national motorcycle racing

“We thank you for the many years of good cooperation and wish the organizers, the drivers and the other pool partners a successful and exciting racing season 2021 – which we will continue to follow with interest”, Jurgen Weidmann, General Manager Sales and Marketing Motorcycle, was quoted in his company’s announcement. Incidentally, Weidmann continues to hope that the current pandemic development can be largely contained with the measures taken by the state governments and that the 2021 season can start without major restrictions.

Suzuki Germany got involved in the IDM after the end of the Pro Superbike era. With the withdrawal from the IDM, Suzuki Germany is saying goodbye to national motorcycle racing. The IDM has been financed by the manufacturers BMW, KTM, Kawasaki, Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki for years. How the Suzuki exit will affect is not yet known.
