Do we have to? Poke around somewhere in the front yard of the fat Alpine passes? You don’t have to. But it opens your eyes to gems that are all too easy to overlook. You can also get in the mood for the really big things. And don’t even miss her.

Even if the tour doesn’t look very alpine, it still has passages that are quite demanding from a driving point of view. Especially the ascent to the acherli Pass is tough. The Glaubbergstrasse and the Panoramastrasse from Schupfheim to Giswil are worthwhile delicacies.

route: 180 km / Travel time: 5-6 hours (1.5 days with comfortable driving and overnight stay)

1. Start in Stans:
From the town center towards Engelberg. To Dallenwil, then turn right to Wirzweli. Immediately narrow road with a decent incline, followed by tight switchbacks. Attention: pasture grids! Behind the top of the pass there is an excellent view of Lake Sarnen.

2. In Sarnen west towards Stalden on Glaubbergstrasse. Generously laid out, brisk driving. Carriageway ledges in front of the pass. Shortly after the top of the pass, the road tapers, several switchbacks.

3. Fin Entlebuch to the left on the N10 towards Bern. After 7.5 kilometers turn left to Giswil. Several small locations are passed through. After Sorenberg, the road first loses the central marking, then the lush width. Glaubbuhlpasshohe with few rest options.

4. 6.8 kilometers behind the parking lot at Glaubbuhl to the right to the Fluon-alp (wooden sign).
Road narrow and later steep. After four kilometers, the Fluonalp cheese dairy. A break with a view.

5. Back to the panorama road and downhill to Giswil. Shortly before Giswil to the left towards Grosteil. The road soon follows the lakeshore towards Sarnen. Attention, fords! The tour ends in Sarnen. There is a connection to the N4 and A8 in the direction of the pass carousel.
