The thick slippers are pulled on cast wheels. A 130 on a wide alloy rim – fans love it. The brakes, on the other hand, are rather mediocre, but are sufficient for gliding.

Flat iron: The stylish panorama speedometer is lavishly framed in chrome and hugs the handlebars with sophistication. This makes it fun to control your cruising speed more often.

Character actor even if he only acts the cruiser classic. The powerful V2 is a short stroke, the cooling fins only take on decorative tasks in view of the water cooling.

Second-hand advice: Yamaha XVS 1300 A Midnight Star
Buy a used Yamaha cruiser
To understand these 1300s as a stopgap between the middle class and the upper class would be wrong. With modern technology and great touring comfort, it is in a class of its own.

Long and fat, as it should be for a grown-up cruiser. With a large-capacity engine whose 73 HP have no problems with a live weight of over 300 kilos. A heavy pound, but the 1300 is quite tame and surprisingly agile on winding roads. It is therefore well received by self-driving women, who make up a noticeably large proportion of the buyers. But even for many seasoned men, the sister XV 1900 (350 kilos) is probably a size too big, which is why they prefer to saddle up on the 1300s.

It is well laid out for the variety of European roads with changing tar surfaces, although stepping boards show the limits of the freedom of inclination at an early stage. However, the only mediocre brakes hardly ever get into critical situations, because the driving style should not exceed normal cruising mode excessively despite very good driving stability. Drivers of an XVS 1300 A are usually touring riders who enjoy the great running culture of the Yamaha V2. It doesn’t bother you that the water-cooled V2 only wears its fine cooling fins as a distinguishing mark for the “Classic Cruiser” genre and strikes a rather technocratic, quiet note.
Four valves per cylinder, significantly more bore than stroke, two balancer shafts, the modern design has little in common with the stylistic models from Milwaukee, but given the minimal load change reactions for the large displacement, such a comparison is always irrelevant if you keep it as long as possible and want to travel comfortably. Or go on a trip as a couple, because the Midnight Star offers a very relaxing place for passengers, and a load of more than four hundred pounds allows sufficient luggage. Bottom line: great for classy cruises at a fair rate.

Flawless. With regular maintenance zero stress is to be expected, the Midnight Star runs rock solid. So if you have a service booklet (inspection every 10,000 kilometers) and the machine is in full shine, you can access it without worries. Note: Even if the first tires of the first years of construction (2007/2008) are still blessed with sufficient residual tread, they should be changed for optimal grip. A set of branded tires in a suitable format costs around 300 euros. It gets interesting when it comes to accessories: Formerly expensive extras (leather cases, for example, cost 1350 euros as Yamaha accessories!) Should be included in the pricing. Hepco, for example, is popular & Becker panniers with C-Bow holders and silencers from Falcon or Miller. In the case of Far East universal bags or no-name chrome parts, however, it is better to ask whether the cheap cosmetics only serve the (professional) seller to market the bike in a rogue manner.
Market situation
No problem finding a used 1300 Midnight Star, for example on the Internet. However, you should plan longer journeys to visit, because the inventory is manageable, and not every neighboring dealer has one in the second-hand portfolio. Bikes as good as new with less than 5,000 kilometers on the clock can still be bought second-hand with the appropriate accessories for 8,000 euros, although daily registrations and discounted new vehicles are already being sold for 10,000 euros. For 7,000 euros you can find very decent used cars, mostly those born before 2009, with a lot of accessories and rarely with more than 15,000 kilometers. The offer is very thin for less than 6,000 euros – a few private sellers offer machines that have been driven a lot (more than 30,000 kilometers) at correspondingly low prices in order to get rid of them more quickly. With offers from abroad (Belgium, Italy, Poland) caution is advised if the history of the bike is not proven. However, the search in this country is worthwhile, because German offers are often for machines maintained in authorized workshops with a complete service booklet.
