The Atlantis 2 is the top of the range BMW model. The concept is quite specific: it is not a question of warm gloves but more of a set of material innovations that make this product a special glove: a kind of "winter windbreaker …".
At 129 €, it is the credit card that heats up first of all … a taste of the concept?
Discovery
The appearance is surprising: the Atlantis 2 offer a combination of nubuck (on the top of the gloves) and leather (on the underside) rather original and attractive. However, nubuck and water rarely go hand in hand, you must first convince yourself that German engineering knows what it is doing..
The palm is reinforced by an extra thickness of leather and also on the top of the metacarpals / phalanges junction joints.
A reflective piping runs all the way down the sleeve on the back of the hand. This particularly long sleeve can be adjusted with two velcro: one at its end, the other on the wrist.
The seams are reinforced and the whole is perfectly adjusted.
Threading
The interior is nice and leaves room for thin liners … That’s the trick. The comfort is very good and the forearm fits easily, even with a thick jacket, in the sleeve. The phalanges are at their ease.
Daily
These BMW gloves are so nice to forget their cut. For long journeys, in temperatures close to 0 ° C, it will be really necessary to wear silk gloves or any other isothermal material which will then allow you to cut 3 to 400 km in the Breton winter without suffering too much. . (even without heated grips).
In the rain nothing passes, even over time. The GORE-TEX membrane® is of rare quality. Nubuck only requires a light maintenance with a wax-coated pad (found everywhere on rawhide). It’s surprising! It keeps its texture and its appearance perfectly despite the water, the cold, the salt…
The interior can be treated with Sapo or Effax (Perfectly fit …) and is perfectly resistant to winter outings.
It is in mid-seasons, cold and rainy or on the contrary milder, that the Atlantis 2 perform even better: once again the waterproof and breathable membrane works wonders.
Conclusion
BMW offers a very technical, particularly efficient and well-finished product.
Usable more than 8 months out of 12, keep in mind that a pair of thin and warm gloves is essential to add to them for a real winter journey.
These are not extreme cold gloves. And even if, at this price, we could hope for more warmth, the overall quality and their flawless resistance to natural elements as well as their wide range of use over the year remain a performance that puts their price in perspective..
