If you really want to go into difficult terrain with a large enduro, you will come across one KTM 1290 Super Adventure R hardly over. For the 2021 model year, the Austrians have further modified their off-road super enduro.

To make the 1290 Super Adventure R even more dynamic, the steering head moves 15 millimeters backwards, the engine moves a little forward and the swing arm is longer. In addition, redesigned trim parts are intended to optimize the seating position and increase freedom of movement on the bike. The headlight uses LED technology and LED daytime running lights. The new, three-part tank with a capacity of 23 liters lowers the center of gravity with its highly drawn-down fuel bladders.

A now sporty stepped bench with a seat height of 880 millimeters sits on the redesigned rear frame. A storage compartment opens up underneath.

It was necessary to adapt the 1,301 cm³ V2 to the Euro 5 standard. The extensively revised two-cylinder engine continues to develop 160 hp, but now only at 9,000 tours (+ 250 / min). At maximum torque, 2 Nm were lost. The LC8 engine reaches 138 Nm at 6,500 revolutions (- 250 rpm). The modifications include new pistons, an improved shift mechanism (Quickshifter is optional), revised coatings and a new exhaust system with two manifolds. The maintenance intervals are 15,000 kilometers. Two coolers instead of just one now take care of the temperature balance. Additional flow channels should also direct less hot air to the driver’s legs.

The redesigned air filter box makes it possible to access the air filter by removing just four screws. The filter itself is now made up of vertical instead of horizontal slats, which helps keep dust and sand away from the bottom of the air filter box.

Other modifications for the 2021 model year include new adventure tires from Bridgestone, fresh colors and graphics, and a keyless system. Like the S model, the 1290 Super Adventure R also benefits from adapted optional software packages. While the Rally Pack offers the rally driving mode, MTC slip adjustment and adjustable throttle response, the even more extensive Tech Pack offers all the features of the Rally Pack as well as the Quickshifter +, engine drag torque control, Hill Hold Control and the adaptive brake light.
