After a painful winter, the French motorcycle and scooter market started the spring of 2010 on a bit of gas: with its 18,385 registrations last March, it almost equaled its performance in March 2009. Figures, graphs and analyzes.

Resumption on a gas net

Subscriber for nine months to double-digit declines (reread our and our first two reports of 2010: and), the market for motorcycles and scooters of "125 cc and more" starts the spring on a trickle of gas and almost manages to match its performance of the month of march 2009 !

After a harsh winter for motorcycle users and – therefore – for their dealers, the month of March 2010 indeed represents a breath of fresh air for the French market with 18,385 motorcycle registrations against 18,717 in March 2009, i.e. a low -1.8% drop (read).

For the information of statisticians, the month of March 2010 had 23 working days against 22 in March 2009. Likewise, the French concessions remained open one more day last month (from Tuesday to Saturday). On the other hand, we note that the number of working days in the first quarter of 2010 is scrupulously the same as in 2009: 63.

Once is not custom, it is the 125 cc which resist the best with an almost negligible decrease in their sales of -0.6% (46 units less) compared to March 2009. In total for this first quarter however , the eighth-liter sector shows a loss of -14.9%…

At the end of these three months, we remember more precisely the surge of Kymco, the increases of Sym and Daelim, the maintenance of Piaggio, the slips of Suzuki and MBK, the declines of Yamaha and Peugeot, as well as the falls of Honda and Jonway.

Among large cubes, the fall for March 2010 was -2.5% (11,015 immates versus 11,301 last year) but allowed that for the whole of the first quarter to be limited to -7 , 3%.

As in 125, the registrations of the main players in the "+ 125cc" sector are experiencing very different trends: those of the Japanese are all dropping – "more or less", respectively at Yamaha and Kawasaki -, the registrations of BMW and Gas Gas are exploding. , those of Ducati increase clearly, those of Harley-Davidson and KTM slip slightly, while those of Triumph fall a little more clearly.
