Market reports - New slippage in motorcycle sales in February - Sales slippage again in February

After a big slide in January, the French motorcycle and scooter market is trying to catch up in February 2010 with 10,241 registered vehicles. Large cubes are doing better, but the general trend remains downward (-12.5%). Reviews and analyzes.

Sales slippage again in February

Sales of motorcycles and scooters over 125 cc recorded a further decline in February 2010. The fall is less dramatic than in January, but the French motorcycle market is down -12.5% compared to a month in February 2009 who was already skating severely in the snow (read and).

The weather is therefore not to blame: very cool and snowy this year, February was also cool last year. The explanation for this new drop in registrations is not hidden behind a correction in the number of working days: there were 20 in 2010 as in 2009. !

No need to look on the side of the end of state aid such as a car – since it has never been offered to two-wheelers! -, neither the sudden rise in the price of oil – gasoline is still so expensive – nor the unpacking of new financial scandals at the origin of stock market, economic, industrial and social crises – as was the case there over a year ago.

Whose fault is it ?

So where did the 1,468 missing registrations go (10,241 in February 2010 against 11,709 last year) for this month of February 2010? ?

Let us quote first of all the half thousand registrations of MP3 LT 250 and 400, which do not enter the figures of the "two" -wheels motorized whereas they have again "penalized" the results of Piaggio in 125 cc and the entire 125 cc sector. We also note that the eighths of a liter complete the second month of 2010 much worse than the large engines: -21.8% decrease against -6.6%…

It should also be remembered that the results at the start of the year depend a lot on the launches of new models, which are rather rare among some major manufacturers: Japanese sports cars, for example, have not experienced revolutions as was the case before..

Likewise, medium-displacement 125 scooters and roadsters – real locomotives on the French market – will not be reviewed or corrected this year: only Yamaha with its updated Xmax and its brand new FZ8 could significantly boost its sales. Will the French number one drag the market in its wake? Answer in our next reviews. In the meantime, it’s time for February market analyzes.
