The motorcycle and scooter market is on the rise
Sales of motorcycles and scooters grew by + 9.2% in February 2014 compared to a difficult month in February 2013. The big cubes are still accelerating (+ 15.3%) and the 125 let go of the brakes (-5.2 %) … Figures, graphs and analysis: MNC market report !

Admittedly, volumes are low – it is still winter, a slack period for two-wheelers – and the increase in registrations is only 733 machines in absolute value. Also, the month that refers to today was worse (!) Than the bad month of)…
However, the + 9.2% posted by the French motorcycle market, which follows the + 10.3% increase observed in, opens up good prospects for the spring and the expected return – and observed these first March days! – beautiful days…
We note that the weather in February was not very different from that of January: the temperatures were significantly higher than normal (+ 2.1 ° C according to Meteo France) and "frosts, confined to the relief, were very rare in the plains"… which is excellent for two-wheelers !
Precipitation also remained above normal by more than 70% over the whole of the territory: Meteo France estimates the increase at + 100% in Brittany (the rainiest February over the period 1959-2014) but reports a -50% drop from Herault to Pyrenees-Orientales.
Soft but humid therefore, February 2014 also had the same number of days as the previous month of February (20 working days, 20 days of opening of concessions … and 28 days "just"). And compared to January 2014 this time, last month had two working days less.
This did not prevent the 125 cc from improving their score compared to the first month of the year: 2,242 registrations in February 2014, a decrease limited to -5.2%. We will have to be satisfied! Yamaha (+ 28.9%) outrageously dominates its direct rivals Honda (-17.6%), Piaggio (-12.9%) and Peugeot (-29.8%).
In the second half of the table, the – smaller – manufacturers are doing better: Suzuki goes up, MBK, Sym and KTM progress, but Kymco regresses. SIMA brand Mash again closes Top 10.
Among the "over 125 cc", the lights are green: the entire market has jumped 15.3% compared to last year. Apart from Yamaha, Triumph and Ducati, which are slipping slightly, all the major players in the sector are seeing their sales increase (Honda, Kawasaki, Harley-Davidson), or even explode (BMW, Suzuki, KTM and … Sherco!).
