What are the main players in the motorcycle world doing during the lockdown linked to the Covid-19 pandemic? Gregory Lejosne, Gregory Lejosne, director of Yamaha Motor France, spoke to Journal moto du Net.

MNC: Where are you confined ?

Gregory Lejosne : During this period, I am often … at the office. We secure a permanence at our head office in Saint-Ouen l’Aumône for services that are directly related to our networks. Keeping in touch with teams whose activities do not allow remote work is important, naturally in compliance with so-called "barrier" and distancing measures.

MNC: How are your days going? ?

G. L. : In this totally new period, two thirds of my time is devoted to communication. Internally, but mainly by phone with our dealers, as well as with our Yamaha Motor Europe teams and colleagues via Skype or Teams. But I recognize that this period of "false rhythm" in terms of activity is also conducive to hindsight and reflection on our organization and the development of our action plans. Particularly with a view to relaunching commercial activity after exiting containment !

MNC: What do you miss the most? The least ?

G. L. : My DNA is deeply commercial, so contact, discussion and visits to our dealers are undoubtedly the most important lack. We are traditionally in the high season period for our activity with a bustling network. The start of the 2020 season was great until March 16, when the market revealed a cumulative growth of over 20% on that date … The period we are living in is therefore very frustrating for brands and their customers. The expectations of our customers are now shifting on social networks. Our digitally active dealers confirm the intensity of exchanges with customers. This is a very positive indicator in the perspective of the exit from containment.

MNC: What are you afraid of ?

G. L. : On a philosophical level, I have no fear. We can only be fatalistic. The period we are living through reminds us violently of the fragility of our condition and of our organizations. It is difficult for us to admit that "the impermanence of things" is absolutely not "admitted" in our Western societies where everything must be planned, organized, anticipated … This therefore contributes to the extreme brutality of this pandemic . Economically, the consequences of this health crisis are undeniably a fear. But at the same time I am optimistic about our activity. When the deconfinement phase begins, the two-wheeler will position itself both as a legitimate mobility solution and a formidable vector of pleasure and freedom in this anxiety-provoking environment. !

MNC: A book, a film, a series, a record to recommend ?

G. L. : I savored the last Sylvain Tesson ("The snow panther"). For fans of thrillers I recommend "Sharko" by Franck Thilliez, particularly panting … and this week I am starting "Pandemia", it is appropriate! For music, I’m pretty jazzy … and after midnight (Helen Merill, Stacey Kent, Ibrahim Maalouf, Melody Gardot) … And the last film I saw was "La belle epoque" by Nicolas Bedos . Crazy, but very original.

MNC: Your Favorite Motorcycle Video ?

G. L. : At the moment these are the videos of Laurent Cochet and his friend A. Baratin on their Kap2Cap road trip. Good humor, beautiful pictures and dreams !

MNC: The first thing you will do at the end of the lockdown ?

G. L. : Find the way to the concessions, see the family again, drink a good beer on the terrace of a bistro, a good restaurant with friends, a road trip in the Alps, find the Baie de Somme, do a little sport, theater, cinema, etc. !
