A more or less stable motorcycle market…

While it has just been, now is the time to tackle the 2016 market with the registration report for the first month of this new year. !

In January 2016, therefore, 7,787 motorcycles (scooters and motorcycles over 50 cc) were registered in our beautiful country. Yes, yes, really, our territory is beautiful and deserves to be traveled up and down and – not too much – across the handlebars of our motorized two-wheelers !

Compared to the month of, this result is encouraging since it represents an increase of around 500 machines, remarkable because of the low winter volumes (200 units less in 125 cc, 700 more in large displacement).

This same result is however slightly less satisfactory when compared to the short month of: 4 more vehicles had been sold (read our). The decline of -0.1% is therefore negligible. Though…

Considering the 125 cc sector alone (and some 110 or 115 cc), we can see that the start of the year is more positive than it seems at first glance: 2268 small motorcycles and scooters have found tenants, an increase of + 4.2% compared to last year.

Of course, all manufacturers – and dealers! – are not in the same boat: the leaders Honda and Yamaha excel, their distant pursuers Piaggio and Peugeot are losing ground, MBK and Kymco quarrel, KTM accelerates, Sym calls out, Suzuki and Mash fall from their saddle…

Among large-displacement vehicles (from 199 cc for the VanVan to 2294 cc for the Rocket III!), The 5519 motorcycles and maxiscooters registered represent a decline of -1.7% (5614 immates in January 2015). And here again, brands are experiencing various evolutions.

In front, Yamaha and BMW regress while Honda and Harley-Davidson progress and put Kawasaki under stress. Suzuki squeezes the buttocks, Triumph and KTM sales drop and Ducati and Beta start 2016 with joy !

In addition to the usual brakes on the sale of large motorcycles (repression, taxes, unemployment, wife, children, mistress, internet … delete unnecessary mentions) in January is added the problem of which, in some cases, simply blocks registrations (read). As long as it doesn’t last !

The weather cannot be blamed: qualified as "mild and rainy"According to Meteo France experts, the month of January 2016 was on the whole more motivating than the cold and snowy month of January 2015. The props manufacturers undoubtedly sold more rain pants than heated gloves…

Note also that the month of January 2015 had an additional working day compared to January 2016 and an opening day of concessions (Tuesday-Saturday) in addition. We can therefore consider that the month of January 2016 was statistically weighted by around -5%.
