Despite the repression, the number of road deaths is currently up sharply compared to last year: + 28% in March, + 8.1% in April and + 15.2% in May … More worrying again for bikers and scooters: according to Road Safety, the two motor vehicles would represent "a third" of this increase over the last five months (a quarter for pedestrians and cyclists).

For the month of May, all the indicators are on the rise: + 8.9% of additional bodily accidents compared to May 2013, + 9.9% of people injured and + 20.2% of people hospitalized. Road Safety believes that these are "particularly violent accidents, involving a large number of people, caused by unsuitable behavior on the road, partly explain this poor record".

Small consolation: the results over twelve rolling months remain positive, with a slight decrease of 0.9% of fatal accidents. Unsurprisingly, however, the government body announces a "strengthening" of controls for this summer in order, she assures, "to sharpen everyone’s vigilance"…
