Ducati Monster 1200 / S: the twelve hundred gives way to the 2017 evo
The all-new Monster 797 does not arrive alone in 2017: it is accompanied by the new version of the Ducati maxiroadster! And if its name does not change, the philosophy of the Monster 1200 is intended to be closer to that of the first Monster. Ditto for version S.
Interviewed on the sumptuous Ducati stand at Eicma 2016 in Milan (review our), he assured Site – and its readers – that in its new 2017 version, "the Monster 1200 would take over the original codes of the Monster".
According to our interlocutor and compared to the previous "twelve hundred" – not to be confused with the new one – the new Italian maxiroadster is more compact, more essential, revitalized in terms of chassis because shorter and therefore more agile, more also powerful, more torquey, packed with the best of technology – Ducati and Bosch! – and more faithful to the spirit of the original Monster of 1993 … and that of the one that MNC had particularly appreciated ?!
Paradoxically, the Testastretta 11 ° DS takes advantage of the transition to the Euro4 standard to develop an enormous maximum power of 150 hp, ie 15 hp more than the 2014 version and 5 hp more than the “S” version which is evolving in parallel. The water mill also grabs a few newton-meters: 126.2 Nm now on them machines.
In terms of chassis, the standard and S versions of the big monster from 2017 stand out on three main points: suspensions, front braking and rims (see key points below). On the other hand, the two models share the same electronics: IMU inertial unit for both! Available as an option on the standard, the "Up and Down" quickshifter is fitted as standard on the S.
Criticized in MNC reviews (, then), the ergonomics of the Monster 1200 would be better in 2017, especially thanks to the height-adjustable saddle. On the contrary, the bill is less good: € 14,090 for the Monster 1200 and € 16,890 for the Monster 1200 S … A little too salty, the bolognese sauce ?!
