It looks like there is absolutely no getting past the BMW R 1200 GS in terms of new registrations this year. In March alone, the BMW travel enduro recorded 1,479 new registrations. For comparison: the second best placed motorcycle so far this year, the Kawasaki Z 900, recorded 1,160 new registrations in the period from January to the end of March 2018. During the same period, the BMW flagship was newly registered 2,285 times.

Honda Fireblade again in the top 20

In February, the Honda Fireblade had just made it into the top 20. After 20th place in February, the Honda super sports car landed in 13th position in the new registrations in March 2018 with 261 units sold. Otherwise, three other Honda models have made it into the ranking. The other bikes in the top 20 come from the manufacturers BMW, Suzuki, Yamaha, KTM, Husqvarna and Kawasaki.

Strong start to the season for Kawasaki

If you look at the new registration statistics by manufacturer, it is not surprising that BMW has the lead. The traditional German manufacturer has recorded a total of 7,231 new registrations in the year to date.

Compared to the same period last year, however, the number has decreased. Between January and March 2017, there were still 8,587 new registrations for BMW. Kawasaki should also be satisfied. The Japanese are in second place in the manufacturer ranking, ahead of Honda and KTM. The start of the 2018 season was not that good for Yamaha. The Japanese who have been so successful in recent years are in the manufacturer ranking behind Harley-Davidson in 6th position. The top 10 are completed by Triumph, Suzuki, Ducati and Husqvarna.
