In mid-September, Yamaha presented us its new Diversion, a 4-cylinder road with the basic cycle part but with a seductive look. Two months later, at the Milan Motor Show, Yamaha unveils its XJ6 roadster version. And some scooters.

Currently in Milan, the brand with three tuning forks presents its stripped version: the XJ6 … "XJ6" short! A motorcycle that wants to seduce "drivers of all ages and skill levels", and of all sexes !

"On the technical side, the XJ6 is based on the XJ6 Diversion, but is differentiated by its exterior which makes it a light, agile and trendy roadster ", announces Yamaha.

In fact, by browsing the technical sheet and observing the bike, we quickly realize that the XJ6 "is" a Diversion, whose plastic – at the front – has simply been modified..

Thus, the Japanese engineers did not seek to offer more punch to this roadster via the usual "refined" camshafts, "optimized" combustion chambers or other "recalibrated" injection maps….

Yam ‘didn’t even bother to change the gear ratios or shorten the final gear by popping a tooth on the crown! Acceleration, pick-up and peak speeds will therefore be exactly the same on the XJ6 and on the Diversion.

There is therefore no need to spend a very long time on "the new narrow, compact and light cycle part"and on the in-line 4-cylinder providing"pleasure and sensations from low and mid revs, with a power that is present but easily manageable", already studied in great detail during the presentation of the Diversion (read again).

It is therefore only at the aesthetic level that the XJ6 differs from the Diversion, with the replacement of the half fairing by sidewalls of radiators, "contemporary roadster cladding, giving an impression of lightness and handling", underlines Yamaha.

Note, however, that the optics at the front – easily recognizable with its small upper appendage – is the same as on the faired version, just like the new multifunction instrumentation.

Visually, the new Yam ‘roadster gives the FZ6 a serious look! It remains to be seen what will happen to his handlebars – adjustable in two positions, it is also the same as that of the diversion! -, during a next test Site !

Like the Diversion, the XJ6 can be fitted with ABS (the weight then drops from 205 to 210 kg) and will be available in three different colors: white "Cloudy White", yellow "Extrem Yellow" or black "Midnight Black". As for its date of arrival in concession and its price, it will be necessary to wait a little longer.
