Piaggio in the 2019 model year
Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Vespa & Co.
The Piaggio Group includes several major brands such as Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Vespa. The selection of different models is correspondingly large. A look at the 2019 model year including prices.
Slawomir Niewrzol, Roman Kirschbauer, Johannes Muller, Stefan Gluck
From the chic retro Vespa for everyday city traffic to the razor-sharp Aprilia RSV4 RR for the racetrack: Piaggio caters to almost all target groups and also knows how to surprise with rather unexpected bikes such as the Moto Guzzi V85 TT. We take a look at Aprilia’s, Moto Guzzi 2019 model ranges in this article, Vespa and Piaggio.
Where is Aprilia headed??
A slight upswing at Aprilia: The electrifying Tuono 1100 continues to sell well for an expensive naked bike, and the newly launched Shiver and Dorsoduro 900 are doing more than properly. And the RSV4 continues to diligently win racetrack comparisons. We take note of this with pleasure, as the troupe from Noale reliably supplies fans of sporty pace with fine material.
With the RS 660 study, Aprilia fully meets the zeitgeist: moderate performance, light and a high-quality chassis.
Where is the journey going? The biggest bang is probably the expansion of the RSV4 Factory’s displacement to 1078 cubic meters and the resulting gain in performance. The prospect of 217 hp is three more than that of the Panigale V4. Exciting times for performance fetishists. In addition, the Tuono 1100 Factory receives an electronic chassis. Remarkable, the conventional chassis of the Aprilians are considered to be among the best of all. Finally, the Shiver 900 is getting a little makeover with app navigation.
Incidentally, Aprilia has slightly adjusted the prices for the RS 125 ABS, RS 125 ABS Replica and Tuono 125 ABS in order to score points on the competitive 125cc market.

Moto Guzzi V85 TT in the starting blocks
They have been building motorcycles in Mandello del Lario on Lake Como for over 97 years. The brand’s model range Moto Guzzi hasn’t changed much in the past two years. There is also no major model offensive for 2019.
Guzzi remains on course and can again increase sales figures in 2018 at a low level.
However: 763 new Moto Guzzis were registered in Germany in 2018. In this respect one shouldn’t expect the innovative strength of the big manufacturers. The classic enduro V85 TT, already announced for autumn 2018, will be in the showrooms of German dealers in the new year. The heavily modified 853 cubic engine comes, of course, in the engine layout used exclusively by Moto Guzzi, as a longitudinally installed, air-cooled 90-degree V2. A sport version of the V9 Bobber has also been in the range since October. The V7 III series, with its strong character, remains the bestseller, the thick ships are rarely seen on the street.

Vespa continues on the wave of success
What distinguishes the good old Vespa from other vehicles that helped motorize the masses during the economic boom? Well, in contrast to the Beetle, Duck, Mini and Co., it has two fewer wheels. But, and that’s what it’s about, it is still being built today. Continuously, without interruptions and above all without embarrassing new editions that have nothing in common with the original apart from the name.
The Vespa is still the only scooter to have a self-supporting body made of sheet steel. This has remained unchanged for almost 20 years.
The “big” GTS, which was introduced almost 20 years ago, is now on its way to becoming an ever-young classic. Their shape is as pleasing as it is timeless and is still very popular everywhere. And the Italians understand perfectly how to adapt their icon to the zeitgeist again and again without slipping into fashion. It remains to be seen how customers will appreciate the modernist TFT display of some models. Often the changes are limited to the colors and small details. But someone who sells is right, according to marketing wisdom. In this respect, they are doing everything right in Pontedera, because the Vespa is right behind the BMW GS in absolute terms. And with the new HPE drive of the 300 series, which is already Euro 5-compatible, this is likely to remain the case in the future. hats off!
