Volkswagen presented its XL Sport concept car powered by Ducati Panigale on Wednesday, as a prelude to the Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris. "Small" change compared to the: the V2 propelling the 890 kg of the machine is now that of the, the most advanced and the most expensive version (65 000 €) of the Bologna Hypersportive.

A "Volk-ati" concept

Partly designed on the basis of the Volkswagen XL1 – a luxurious (€ 111,000!) Hybrid car combining diesel and electric to keep fuel consumption below the symbolic bar of 1 liter per 100 km – this XL Sport Concept is the fruit of the imagination by Ferdinand Piech, grandson of Ferdinand Porsch himself.

Objective of the leader of the "VW" group: to design a sports car that is as light and efficient as possible using a sports motorcycle engine. This choice is explained by the fact that a Hypersport block is precisely developed to bring together maximum performance and minimum weight..

The German automobile group has therefore logically drawn from the organ bank of its motorcycle brand, Ducati, and grafted the "Superquadro" L-twin of the 1199 Superlegerra onto its four-wheeled XL Sport concept..

Particularly different from the via its titanium connecting rods and valves and its crankshaft lightened by means of tungsten inserts, this engine spits the trifle of 202.5 hp. This power would allow the concept "Volk-ati" to spin at 270 km / h and cover 0 to 100 km / h in 5.7 sec..

Measuring 4.21m long and 1.85m wide, the "beast" receives a Volkswagen-developed seven-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox and ceramic disc brakes.

XL Sport in the spotlight, but also the Scrambler as a guest star !

This sports car was unveiled at the end of the Volkswagen Group presentation at the Paris Motor Show. 500 copies of this concept visible until October 19 in Paris should be produced in Germany, at a price that has not been communicated.

No need, however, to expect a "cheap" price given the exceptional and radical nature of this (beautiful) project, which brings enormous and interesting visibility to a "small" manufacturer of motorcycles like Ducati.

In this spirit of "mass distribution", the Italian brand also took advantage of this event to show off its, a pretty neo-retro motorcycle that surfs on vintage fashion with the aim of seducing a wider audience..

Technologically quite simple with its air-cooled Desmodue twin and its style going to the essential, the Scrambler can indeed catch the eye of bikers originally insensitive to the values of high technology and sportiness usually conveyed by motorcycles of the Bologna brand.
