A completely crazy race! The 2018 Argentine Grand Prix will be remembered for its incredible twists and turns, one of the main ones being the new collision between Marquez and Rossi through the fault of the Honda rider… And the winner in all of this? Cal Crutchlow, who signs his third MotoGP success !

Valentino Rossi probably did not think so well when he expected "" … This 2018 Argentine Grand Prix took a funny turn on the formation lap: due to the drying conditions, most of the pilots hesitated on their choice of tires, the vast majority opting for rain tires. All … except Jack Miller, who reissued his daring slick bet despite the still wet character of the track.

An incredible scene followed, during which all of the Australian poleman’s rivals returned to the pits to change motorcycles, even though the kick-off had to be given! After much palaver and a questionable postponement of the start of a good fifteen minutes, the race was launched in unprecedented circumstances: Miller all alone on his first place on the grid, with several tens of meters ahead of his opponents.

Very quickly, Marc Marquez took the lead and seemed to be heading quite easily towards his first victory of the season. But the race direction had noted his illegal maneuver on the grid, when he pushed his RCV which had just stalled before making a U-turn to regain his place on the grid. However, the regulations explicitly prohibit any movement in the wrong direction on the track: Marquez should have entered the pits and started from the pit-lane.  

The defending champion is therefore, which causes him to lose 27 seconds and leave the reins of the race to Jack Miller. But can we really blame the Spanish for his maneuver, in view of the circumstances and the anarchic nature of this starting procedure modified to the punch? Not sure !

On the other hand, Marc Marquez then confused speed and haste during his infernal comeback: much faster than his rivals, the n ° 93 was repeatedly too incisive during his overtaking, especially on Aleix Espargaro which he had failed to flank on the ground…

Then, even though he had taken a penalty for his action on the Aprilia official, Marc Marquez repeated the same type of muscular overtaking on … Valentino Rossi! Far too daring, the Honda rider literally came to embed himself in the fairings of the Yamaha of No.46, which straightened up in surprise and shock before biting on the grass on the edge of the track and losing the front…

At this moment, Marquez knows it: the fault he committed is all the more serious as it is still in all memories. The wounds opened during this infamous "SepangClash" were barely closed: this new hook opens them again brutally.

The icy welcome reserved by the members of the Doctor’s team (finally 19th on arrival) when Marquez comes to apologize to him speaks volumes: the Italian – still too angry to come and shake his hand – does not. is not ready to forgive this direct fault, clearly attributable to overconfidence. 

Designated as the favorite from the first free practice, Marquez knew he was faster than everyone else: the reigning champion abused it brazenly, instead of intelligently taking advantage of it to build a victory that extended its arms to him. With a 30-second penalty, he was demoted to the final standings from fifth place on arrival to 18th…

In the Repsol clan, the disappointment is all the more acute as Dani Pedrosa ends up on the mat after being ejected from the trajectory! The occasion to note that the Tech3 pilot for his part received no sanction for his manly interior on "Pedro", which however led the latter directly in a wet task where he lost the grip…

Crutchlow passes the three ! 

At the head of the race, the situation will take some time to settle down: Jack Miller led a good part, before losing the thread following an error. The victory was then played between Johann Zarco and Cal Crutchlow, ultimately to the advantage of the Honda-LCR rider. Alex Rins – remarkable from start to finish – completes the podium on his Suzuki GSX-RR.

Cal Crutchlow takes the reins of the provisional ranking with this victory – his third after those in 2016 in and in – and his 4th place in this year. The n ° 35 precedes the general Andrea Dovizioso, who saves a very badly embarked weekend with the sixth place in the race.

Maverick Viñales places the first official Yamaha in fifth place, gaining a place following Marquez’s downgrading. A mixed performance for "Mack", who thought he would score big points on this circuit he loves: failure. Not to mention that the 14 seconds that separate him from Zarco’s private M1 on the line still raise many questions…

Finally, Jorge Lorenzo again missed the race: the Mallorcan – one last time! – finished the Argentinian GP in 15th place 42 seconds behind the winner … The n ° 99 never found his marks on the circuit of Termas de Rio Hondo and finished behind the two beginners Takaaki Nakagami and Franco Morbidelli.

Worrisome, as "Jorgeuil" has not yet scored a point in Qatar, following a fall caused by a brake problem that Brembo has officially endorsed. Finally, it should be noted that the success of Crutchlow on his semi-official RC213V constitutes the 750th victory for a Honda in motorcycle Grand Prix. Sacred achievements !
