According to figures from the last monthly road safety bulletin, the number of people who lost their lives on the roads of France in January 2013 is down by -8.8% compared to 2012.

A total of 271 drivers were victims of a traffic accident last month, 26 less than in January 2012. The number of bodily accidents is also down -12.3% compared to January 2012, just like the number of people injured (-11.6%).

"The number of injured people hospitalized is in virtual stagnation with 2,016 people hospitalized for more than 24 hours in January 2013, which corresponds to a decrease of -0.9%", details road safety adding that "the 26 lives saved in January 2013 are essentially split between motorcyclists and pedestrians ".

Which is both good news … and obvious: the month of January was particularly harsh and often snowy, many users preferred the car or public transport to their motorbike or scooter. Hence the decrease in two-wheeler accidents: CQFD !

Over twelve rolling months (from February 2012 to January 2013), 3,619 people lost their lives in a road accident.
