Statements after the 2nd Superbike race

Max Biaggi 1st: "We did the double, it was my dream. Before coming here, I hoped and dreamed of achieving a double. This is exactly what I need. I was also a little lucky because Checa had some problems, but hey it’s 50 points taken, very useful for me and my team. I’m happy for my teammate too. This machine is only a year and a half old, and we developed the bike very, very carefully. The engineers did a good job. I am very happy for my friends at Aprilia. People understand that this motorcycle is a winning machine".

Leon Camier 2nd: "The start of the weekend didn’t go as planned, really. I had a few crashes, and somehow managed to reverse the trend in the second half of the weekend. In the first race we made a bad choice of front tire and maybe got a little messed up in the settings. The second race was terrible, I would like to thank Aprilia massively. They did an awesome job as you can see. I think this is Aprilia’s first double in Superbike. Max just got a little higher beat than me".

Cal Crutchlow 3rd: "I think we deserved it. In the first race we were unlucky. We got caught in someone else’s crash and I got off the track. I think we came back strong in the second race, and I offer my congratulations to Max and Leon: they had a superb race. I think we’ve come a long way. Yamaha did a good job this weekend. It was a very similar race to the one Ben did here last year, and he gained nine seconds: it shows how fast these guys are.".

Troy Corser 5th: "We changed the rear spring and made some adjustments. The bike was definitely behaving better, but the problem reappeared when the tire wore out after a few laps. We now know what we need to improve".

Sylvain Guintoli 6th: "My pace in the second race was much better and I enjoyed fighting with the other drivers as I moved up the field. My 6th place is my best result since Australia and it was time to get competitive again. I now want to continue, keep up the good work and attack from the first practice of the next event in order to be better placed on the grid on race day.".

Leon Haslam DNF: "I didn’t have a particularly good start today and maybe that’s the source of some of the problems. I was tenth at the end of the first lap of the 2nd race and once again I had a lot of work to catch up with the leaders. I managed to climb back up to sixth after seven laps, but the bike suddenly dropped into one of the hairpins and I was thrown off the hook. I received a number of stitches on my left arm, just above the elbow, but I will be ready for Misano. Of course I am very disappointed with the way the day ended. Falling is bad enough, but losing the championship lead is another. I always knew that this event was going to be very difficult and the races proved it. I was lucky enough to get second place in the first race and the bad luck to fall in the second. Carlos should have won both races and I feel a little sorry for him. He led both, but had to withdraw. Max got lucky, but the race is sometimes like that".

Carlos Checa DNF (x2): " Everything was going well: the work, the preparation, the performance, the passion, the race, the team. But unfortunately the results did not appear. It had never happened! We were strong and I would leave here with my head held high. I will immediately turn the page and focus on the next practice in Misano and the next race, where I know we can do well. This is the race…".
