Reduced to 11 laps due to a red flag, the Mondial Supersport race at Magny-Cours gave rise to a superb duel between championship leaders Sofuoglu and Jacobsen. Even beaten by the American, the Turkish pockets his fourth world coronation…

Supersport Race

The start of the SSP race is given on an always wet track. Kyle Smith took off superbly from the second row but Lucas Mahias made the holeshot in front of Kenan Sofuoglu. The Franco-Grolandais enters strong in Estoril but the Turkish is even more reckless !

Forced to widen in the long curve to the right, the triple champion – quadruple in a few minutes? – all the same came out in front ahead of Mahias, PJ Jacobsen, Alex Baldolini, Gino Rea, Lorenzo Zanetti, Kevin Wahr, Kevin Manfredi, Martin Cardenas and Aiden Wagner. Smith exits Nurburgring and loses a handful of places…

Soguoglu completed the first lap 2.6 seconds ahead of his n ° 99 enemy in the championship, PJ Jacobsen! Kevin Wahr, starting from 12th place on the grid, took advantage of his rear "rain" tire to enter the Top 5. The young German even reached the podium in the 2nd lap !

Lucas Mahias overtook Baldolini in the 3rd lap and placed his R6 n ° 14 in the aspiration of the Honda n ° 19 … But Jacobsen was already more than six seconds ahead of our 2013 French Supersport champion and Sofuoglu doubled the bet with 12 seconds ahead !

The red flag is waved … The CBR600RR n ° 43 gave up the ghost and covered with oil the exit of a turn. The pilots therefore regain their pits and will be entitled to a second start … in the dry! The race will count only 11 laps.

Second departure: Kenan Sofuoglu is off to a great start. PJ Jjacobsen finds himself several lengths behind the Turk and leads the peloton made up of Lucas Mahias, Kevin Wahr, Kyle Smith, Lorenzo Zanetti, Gino Rea, Martin Cardenas, Xavier Pinsach and Marco Faccani. Cedric Tangre, 2015 French Supersport champion, is 17th.

PJ Jasobsen climbs up like an arrow at the end of the long – not very – straight line of the Nivernais route and brakes in Kawasaki n ° 54 in Adelaide! To keep his title chances, the American has no choice: he must push Kenan to the fault…

Although he can settle for second place to win his fourth coronation, Kenan is trying to get back to the front in Adelaide. The Kawa pilot undoubtedly considers that it is more "prudent" to keep out of reach of the hot Lucas Mahias … or does he himself want to trap Patrick ?!

The three leading riders largely dominate their subject: the Honda n ° 99, the Kawasaki n ° 54 and the Yamaha n ° 14 have six seconds ahead of Kyle Smith at the end of the 2nd lap … The British rider turns close four seconds slower !

In front, the battle intensifies between the two leaders of the championship! Kenan takes the reins of the race from PJ on the third lap through Adelaide while Lucas sets the fastest time in the race. In the following lap, however, n ° 14 lost a few lengths on n ° 54 and 99.

The halfway mark is crossed in the middle of the 5th lap: Jacobsen stays in Sofuoglu’s wheel and widens a gap of two seconds on Mahias. Smith still leads the pack, 15 seconds behind the leading duo. Zanetti, Rea and Wahr accompany the n ° 111 Honda.

PJ Jacobsen attacks again in the hairpin at the end of the straight line and whips his CBR600RR copiously to get away from his rival. Behind, Rea falls into Adelaide, biting on a slippery portion of the track…

With three laps to go, the gap between Jacobsen and Sofuoglu reached one second. The Turk is no longer afraid of being caught by Mahias who is about four seconds away from him. As # 99 Honda moves away, Kenan’s fourth title draws closer !

PJ Jacobsen achieved an impeccable end of the race and added a victory to his young CV. But the happiest is undoubtedly Kenan Sofuoglu who wears a new crown after a particularly trying year, marked by the disappearance of his infant Hamza….

The French public is perfectly aware of this and gives the new world champion a standing ovation. Congratulations are already raining on social networks, from Joan Lascorz, Miss Rea and probably soon from the unlucky Jules Cluzel.

In the closed park, the 2015 WSSP champion is congratulated by Jonathan Rea Himself. Questioned by our colleagues from WorldSBK.Com, Sofuoglu does not forget to pay tribute to our dear "Julo" in the closed park. Lucas Mahias, for his part, thanks MG Competition and Yamaha for helping him get to his first World SSP podium. The first of a long series ?
