Supersport Donington Park Race 2016

Patrick Jacobsen achieves a masterful hole shot and dives into the first curve in the lead! The poleman Kenan Sofuoglu takes the wheel of his dolphin, followed by the English champion Luke Stapelford, Alex Baldolini, Randy Krummenacher, Gino Rea, Illia Mikhalchik, Jules Cluzel, Kyle Smith, Lorenzo Zanetti, etc..

Kenan Sofuoglu seized the lead on the first lap and locked his first place by taking extremely tense trajectories at the end of the course. Jacobsen hangs on while Stapleford gives up several lengths in the second lap. More confident than the English champion, Krummenacher jumps to third place in the fast curves of Craner then Old Hairpin.

Jules Cluzel did his best to move up the peloton but lost his way in the penultimate pin of Melbourne by attacking Zanetti. The Frenchie widens but returns to the attack without losing any place: Caricasulo, Gamarino and Mikhalchik are too far away to take advantage of his gap.

At the start of the 3rd lap, Zanetti dives under Baldolini’s private F3 and climbs to seventh position. His teammate Cluzel imitates him on the descent to Old Hairpin. Next target in the sights of the two official MV Agusta pilots: Ayrton Badovini and his CBR, winners of the last race in Sepang (in the wet).

In front, Sofuoglu widens the gap on his pursuer: at the start of the 4th lap, the n ° 1 Kawasaki is one and a half second ahead of the n ° 2 Honda. The American turns two tenths of a second slower than the Turk … and his Swiss teammate who whips his Ninja n ° 21 to approach the second step of the podium !

The two Britons Stapelford and Rea roll four seconds behind the leader and are chased by the CBR n ° 86 of Badovini and by three F3s: the n ° 25 of Baldolini, passed in front of the n ° 87 of Zanetti and the n ° 16 by Cluzel! "Julo" overtakes his teammate in the middle of the 7th lap…

The halfway mark is approaching and Sofuoglu takes his lead to more than two seconds. Jacobsen is joined by Krummenacher: the American is under pressure in the first fast and winding portion of the English circuit but lessens in the final section more "stop and go".

Three seconds before this breathless duel, four drivers fight to integrate the British "Top Five": Rea on his MV, Stapelford on his Triumph, Badovini on his Honda and Baldolini on his MV are in the same second at 8 laps of the end … The finish promises to be bleeding !

Three seconds behind this quartet, Jules Cluzel rides alone. But Kyle Smith climbs back like a cannonball on the handlebars of his Honda n ° 111: the Briton devours Zanetti in the bowl of Old Hairpin. In Smith’s wake, Caricasulo in turn threatens No. 86 MV.

Our poor "Julo" loses his eighth place at the end of the 15th lap … The "Coq Supersportif" tries to hang on to Kyle’s wheel but he has to give up quickly. Our n ° 16 on the other hand turns in the rhythm of Zanetti and Caricasulo, placed five seconds behind him..

In front, the tireless Sofuoglu continues to attack but Jacobsen is even faster! With two laps to go, the American got rid of Krummenacher and got closer to the Turkish leader. Warned of PJ’s return, Kenan gives one final push on the final lap.

At the end of the course, the quadruple champion turns around in the return straight: his great rival – on the track as in the championship – is more than a second and a half away … Sofuoglu can therefore celebrate his third victory of the season with a majestic "wheeling" under the checkered flag !

In the provisional standings, the quadruple world champion totals 121 points and now has more than one victory over his teammate Randy Krummenacher (95 points) and almost two over Jacobsen (76) and Cluzel (75). Smith, Rea and Baldolini fight for fifth place.

Finally, it should be noted that the French champion, Cedric Tangre, finished 26th in this English race at the controls of the only Suzuki on the grid. In "his" Superstock 600 category, Zaccone and Mikhalchik are the only ones to score points (respectively 4 and 3).
