Yamaha is currently regaining market share with the successful MT series. It is all the more gratifying that cruiser fans can also enjoy a new model this year. The Yamaha XVS 1300 Custom is a chopper version derived from its sister model Midnight Star. Its 21-inch front wheel stretches forward strikingly. The telescopic fork, which is extremely flat at 40 degrees, and the driver’s seat positioned at a height of just 680 millimeters result in a classic chopper look. In addition to the great looks, the Yamaha offers a gently pulsing 60-degree V2 engine, which at least lifts a whopping 103 Newton meters to the crankshaft.

It’s not comfortable in the long run, but it is casual

Even pushing out of the parking space is unexpectedly easy with the Yamaha XVS 1300 Custom. As usual on a chopper, the buttocks are located quite deep in the fully upholstered seat, the feet are placed far forward on rubberized notches. It’s not comfortable in the long run, but it is casual. The engine starts up spontaneously and, thanks to two balancer shafts, pumps gently to itself. What is immediately noticeable: Yamaha has translated the transmission quite long. Driving through towns in fourth gear of the precisely locking five-speed transmission is not what the 72-hp unit likes. The toothed belt then has to absorb the rough pounding of the pistons with a diameter of 100 millimeters through the ceramic-coated cylinder liners.

Those who diligently operate the gearbox reap the benefits of brisk locomotion. This does not ebb in curves. With long arms, you can navigate the Yamaha XVS 1300 Custom quite diagonally through serpentines. The cornering stability gives a lot of confidence. Both the chassis and the single-disc brake at the front (without ABS) leave a solid impression. Only the workmanship of the cruiser, which is fairly priced at 10,995 euros, could turn out to be of a higher quality in one place or another.
