Not a best seller in Germany

After all: once you have mastered the first few meters, the following kilometers are a wellness cure. Because if the 375 kilogram Kawasaki VN 2000 once it rolls, you can quickly switch to the relaxing cruisin ‘mode. Despite its long wheelbase of seventy-three, the Kawa is by no means sluggish. The low seat height (68 cm) and wide handlebars (102.5 cm) ensure that the VN is reasonably easy to move despite the enormous wheel load and 150 mm front tires. A real delight is of course the huge V-Two, which sends its torque peak of 177 Nm to the 200 mm rear wheel roller at a bubbling 3,200 rpm. Is it because German men are not related to the American standard 46-93-180? Because in this country the brute chunk could not prevail. Just 600 pieces were sold in the six years of sale. MOTORCYCLE: A look at the number of units shows: This Kawa is not the everyday mobile. Who bought the Kawasaki VN 2000 back then, who is interested in it today??

Andreas Wille: They were and will remain very experienced motorcyclists. Usually the generation over 50, who have been traveling on Japanese choppers and cruisers for many years. But nobody comes to us in the yard who leaves a Yamaha XV 535 Virago and asks: Where is the Kawasaki VN 2000? It is more likely that someone wants to exchange their ZX-12R for a VN with the words “something different from now on”.

MOTORCYCLE: Is specifically searched for the Kawasaki VN 2000?

Andreas Wille: They aren’t chance acquaintances. The interested parties are usually well informed and know exactly what they are getting into with the Kawasaki VN 2000. Of course, at the first contact it can happen that someone dismounts, frightened, because it is then too powerful. After all, we’re talking about 375 kilograms live weight. They also want to stand, e.g. B. when maneuvering, can be moved safely. All of this is no longer an issue when driving, since the fat brummer can actually be handled very easily.

MOTORCYCLE: Which vintages of the Kawasaki VN 2000 sell best??

Andreas Wille: Clearly the second generation from 2008. As the Kawasaki VN 2000 Classic, the styling with the classic round headlights was much more successful. The used one is now much more in demand than the first generation with the, let’s say, very idiosyncratic front lamp including a mounted fork à la Harley Fat Boy.

MOTORCYCLE: Is the Kawasaki VN 2000 community crazy about building?

Andreas Wille: Actually not at all. The fact that a Kawasaki VN 2000 is really heavily cumstomized – keyword rear conversion, wider rear wheels – is almost invisible. More likely that it is hung with all kinds of accessories in its original state. Like the one from the first series that we are currently selling. For touring enthusiasts, everything is there, even a cigarette lighter to light up a cigarette while driving.

MOTORCYCLE: Anomalies in the workshop …

Andreas Wille: … actually doesn’t exist. The Kawasaki VN 2000 is built to be extremely stable. You have to drive the engine without oil to willfully destroy it!

MOTORCYCLE: Can the Kawasaki VN 2000 take off again?

Andreas Wille: With the Euro 4, Kawa has more or less discontinued the custom program. Of course, this stimulates the demand for well-maintained used vehicles tremendously.
