In the course of the Corona crisis, more and more approval agencies are restricting their operations or even closing them completely. Registering, de-registering or re-registering vehicles is therefore becoming increasingly difficult. Bavaria now offers simplified online admission.

Those who currently want to register, de-register or re-register their motorcycle are often faced with closed doors. In the course of the corona pandemic, more and more registration offices are restricting their service – and that at the start of the season.

Each office regulates the operation itself

“Vehicle registrations are currently not possible”, one hears from more and more district offices. In other offices, the licensing operation continues without restriction. Since there are no state or even federal regulations in the area of registration offices, the citizens only have to ask the respective district office whether registration services are still offered and, if so, which ones. In some cases, the authorities’ websites also provide information. Often times, pre-registration by phone or an appointment reservation online is mandatory. This applies to private individuals as well as to business people. The offices absolutely want to avoid crowds.

One list The current status of the individual approval offices can be found on the website of the approval service provider Kroschke, which is updated twice a day.

Alternative online admission

Since October 2019, motorcycles can also be registered online “i-Kfz” approved, but the hurdles are high. In addition, the approval authorities often lack the appropriate software equipment or the appropriate IT connection.

Bavaria offers relief

Bavaria accommodates those who want to be registered. From now on and at least until June 2, 2020, access to i-Kfz online services will be made easier. This means that it is no longer necessary to authenticate yourself with the eID function of the identity card (nPA) in order to apply for vehicle registrations and de-registrations online via the citizen service portal of the AKDB. A BayernID created with a user name and password is sufficient. This new approach is not binding for all Bavarian registration offices, but most authorities have already given their approval. This allows motorcyclists to register their bikes, but they are hardly allowed to move it at the moment, because Joyrides are forbidden in Bavaria.

You can find a list of the admission offices at which the simplified registration function is already possible in Bavaria here.
