Second hand advice Kawasaki Z 750
Where are the pitfalls lurking?
From 2004 Kawasaki finally made steam again in the glorious 750cc class. The angular Kawasaki Z 750 naked bike hardly had to fear competition: there weren’t any! The four-cylinder sold very well when new, which is why the used selection is great.

In a class of its own – this is how Stefan Kaschel wrote the top test of the Kawasaki Z 750, born in 2007. But the MOTORRAD man alluded less to the qualities of the four and more to the revival of the motorcycle category: 750 cc engines like the Honda CB 750 or BMW R 75/5 weren’t once the measure of all things?

Tradition or glorification is the Kawasaki Z 750 in a class of its own on the road too? Of course, the little one also had to be measured against its big sister, the Z 1000. It set the bar very high right from the start and is clearly considered to be the more ambitious motorcycle. The savings of almost 3000 euros compared to the 1000 series could also be felt on board the Z 750 in terms of chassis and performance. On the plus side, however, the “Dreiviertel-Zett” was already convincing in its first version (2004 to 2006) as a great all-rounder for every day. With the model update from 2007, the Kawasaki Z 750 again in terms of pressure (better bottom / middle coordination) and comfort (noticeably less vibrations). In the chassis, an upside-down fork with adjustable spring base and rebound damping catches the eye, but in connection with the (too hard) rear shock, the following applies: not perfect, but sufficient for the country road.

No typical quirks, unless the previous owner lent a hand.
Typical Kawasaki Z 750 quirks? Dealers and workshops usually shake their heads at this request. The “three-quarter four” is considered to be robust and less prone to defects of any kind. So at the on-site appointment it is more important to track down maintenance sins or signs of use of all kinds: scratches or scrapes on the housing cover that indicate falling over, worn chain sets, low oil level. Younger vehicles from first hand are usually passed on with a fully stamped checkbook, from the second or third hand, on the other hand, the readiness for maintenance decreases enormously. In return, the desire to remodel increases, but not always a tasteful hand is shown. Most popular tuning measures: exhaust (especially on the first generation of the Kawasaki Z 750), mini indicators, mirrors, rear conversion. Exciting question: Do all add-on parts have an E-mark for legal use in public transport? Stay away from dubious radical tags.
Market situation
MOTORCYCLE
Good availability on the market from around 2000 euros. The half-clad variant is usually traded cheaper.
The Schwacke list now lists the first year of the Kawasaki Z 750 well below 2000 euros. However, according to the well-known vehicle evaluation tool, it should already have over 100,000 kilometers on the clock. In the case of the naked bike for every day, of course, a purely hypothetical value. The common vehicle exchanges on the Internet show the reality: the low-priced entry-level offers are just over 2000 euros for the first two years of the Z 750, the mileage is well below the 50,000 mark. No wonder, the Standard-Z is not designed as a touring mile eater, but is mostly driven by (re) beginners with relatively moderate annual mileage. The half-clad S version, however, is different, which is usually offered with extras such as a touring bench or suitcase. However, this only appeals to a very special group of buyers, which is why the tariffs are significantly below the usual Z 750 prices despite the added value in the form of mileage or equipment. The first generation of models (up to 2006) is often offered privately, for dealers it is usually too sensitive about the warranty obligation. In the case of the second generation, the relationship is more likely the other way around.
